La Chandeleur at La Crêperie Bretonne

Every February 2nd, SOLLI and I meet for La Chandeleur.

We always go to La Crêperie Bretonne on 56, rue du Montparnasse, 75014.

We have been going every year for La Chandeleur since 2015. That’s 11 years!

We never get la crêpe du moment…

We always order the same thing!

Champignons with Emmental and persil d’ail.

Yes that is a ton of melted butter on top.

Plus we get a pitcher of Lait Ribot…buttermilk.

Solli grew up on buttermilk in Sweden 🇸🇪 and laps it up 😀

We always arrive on the dot

When they open at midi/12:00 and it is empty.

Within 15 minutes, it is jammed-packed and jumping. Every seat is taken.

The French like to celebrate their traditions With food.

I am in love 💙 with their blue and white cider cups.

I don’t remember seeing…

BRETAGNE souvenirs last time…

It does make me

Miss St. Malo.

When we come outside

People are lined up across the street

Up and down

Rue du Montparnasse.

We walk to Carrefour on rue de Sévres…

They have everything for DIY Chandeleur.

I was drooling 🤤 so heavily over their Fraise 🍓 du Plougastel jam, I forgot to take a picture 📸

Like Groundhog Day in the US, Chandeleur is a harbinger of Spring 🌸 to come, maybe because the 🥞 are round like the Sun 🌞

We are definitely experiencing an early sunny Spring in Paris.
Look! Is someone already doing the windows 🪟!

  1. What a lovely holiday! I’d never heard of La Chandeleur before reading your post. A celebration of “bringing back the light” is much more joyful than Groundhog Day.

Thank you for introducing me to another French tradition. Love savory crepes, so will put this restaurant as a must do when next in Paris. Awe…St Malo…what a beautiful place.

Yum! Love rue du Montparnasse with its insane number of crêperies. Your galette looked fabulous. Really, how does anyone have room for a desert crêpe?! I like a bolée de cidre with my galette. I have never tried lait ribot, you have me intrigued. Lovely tradition that you have with Solli. ❤️
