L'Empire du Sommeil 💤 Marmottan Monet Museum

Sleep Aides (mask, plugs, tape)
A timely exhibition at musee Marmottan,

L’Empire du Sommeil
😴

Sleep is such a hot topic these days,
And musée Marmottan
Had the foresight to build an entire exhibition
Ingres
Around the subject,
Like stealing a nap for example…
Another napper, supposed to be guarding clothing while swimmers frolic in a brook.
I was surprised how many
Turned out for opening day.
Sleep walk from room to room in a trance-like state - the velvet-covered walls and floors are very effective.
I loved the mysterious shape this sleeper made in his bed 🛌 I wish there had been more.
And more sleeping cats like Gwen John’s sketch ✍️ Cats are beautiful sleepers…
A David Hockney dachshund snoozing.
Highly-detailed model bedroom inside a window box by Charles Matton, 2002.
A messy bed has many stories to tell by Eugene Delacroix
The  broad expanse of the birthing bed painted by Sorolla of his wife enjoying her sleeping newborn.
Francesco Goya
Of course the realm of nightmares beckons
And play’s its role in sleep 💤  Were the first horror movies painted 🎨 on canvas.
A favorite painting by Felix Vallotton in the exhibit. Love ❤️ thé color blocking.
How is your sleep? Peaceful I hope🤞
My sleep is fractured. Therefore thé sleep aides (eye mask, ear plugs, adhesive tape) above 👆
This is a LONG video on SLEEP, but worth a listen from Dr Rhonda and sleep expert, Dr Michael Grandner.
The musée Marmottan
Looks out on a lovely park in the 16th arrondissement. The l’Empire du Sommeil exhibit is on till March 1,2026.

It’s on through March 2026. Plan a trip! I’m glad you like it. It’s rather eclectic but then maybe not since everyone sleeps 😴

Ha! It is a hot topic, especially as we get older. The randomness of the collection makes it very interesting, imho. Thanks for the preview, you always take the best photos!

Thanks but in fact the exhibit is not random unlike my photos. Each room deals with a particular area of sleep, dreams, nightmares, death, hypnosis etc.I did not find the audio guide necessary. It’s a more personal experience without it imo.

Thanks for sharing. I love the rosie color in your painting with the ear plugs, what are the other objects?

An eye mask, foam ear plugs and surgical tape. I tape my mouth at night (postage stamp size). You sleep better and no dry mouth in the morning 🌞

Ah, interesting. I think there’s scientific evidence that breathing through one’s nose is also much healthier.

Exactly. Your nose can filter out bad bacteria 🦠
      Your mouth can not.

Very interesting exhibit- I love the Musee Marmottan and have a wonderful memory of walking there from the Bois des Boulonge on fall afternoon.

It is a very special museum and not normally too crowded. Their cache of Monet water Lillie’s and other of his pictures 🖼️ is a surprise ending to every exhibition.

I love this museum! I used to stay at a small hotel in the 16th and could easily walk to it -- sort of "my" neighborhood! Thanks for memory.

Thé 16th is not a hot tourist destination imo, but definitely an upper crust residential area, so fun to explore the Art Nouveau architecture.

Leaf 🍁 turning here is nothing like New England or even NYC. The trees are different but there is some of it.

You probably have no sleep 😴 issues. YouTube is full of expert talking heads and there is a constant flow of sleep books 📚

  8. What an interesting idea for an exhibition! Would be fun to go and see the different themed rooms, great to get an overview from you - Carol’s highlights.
I often use an eye mask but haven’t really liked ear plugs. Didn’t know about the tape, that’s interesting to help you breathe through your nose!

James Nestor is all over YouTube, author of the book 📕 BREATHE: the new science of a Lost Art. You sleep deeper with your mouth closed.
Ear plugs are to block out noise.
The eye mask is new but def keeps me sleeping longer.

This was different. Interesting and the walls and floors are wonderful as I felt relaxed looking at them. Lynne
