You’ve got Paris Maps, rue du Cherche Midi

Do you get lost in Paris? My 1st year in Paris I got lost all the time.

Ap of Napoleon sites in Paris
I don't drive 🚘 so I collect maps 🗺️
Map of Napoleon sites in Paris
I dreamed of creating my own Paris maps.
A Paris dish towel map from Un Dimanche a Paris (now closed) is an essential for the map-obsessed.
I've flirted with this goofy biscuit map box  in Monoprix for too long. Have you seen it?
Another goofy map online shows charcuterie/ham etc. floating round l'Île Saint Louis.
I longed for La Mere de Famille's illustrated map of Paris candy box forever.
Caramel maps of France hold a special place in my heart ❤️ So special. I broke a filling last week eating a caramel.
Sometimes I scribble some Paris maps.in my sketchbooks
Even Paris macaron maps.
After 9 months of trial & error I'm thrilled to share a NEW subscription letter in my Etsy shop - PARIS STREET MAPS! .
Ta Da!
May's map is rue du Cherche-Midi - a street I could never spell until 8 -10 visits doing map research.
Actor Gerard Depardieu owns a fish store on rue du Cherche-Midi…
Where can you get the perfect light French bistro lunch after browsing/shopping at Le Bon Marche
On rue du Cherche-Midi a block away at Le Nemrod.
Early stages creating the Paris maps proved a nightmare of sorts.
Moving right along.
Finding the right typography for a map is not a piece of cake 🍰
Falling in love with curly French ecriture was maybe a Big mistake.
The boys at the copy shop (Team PB) said I needed more guys on the map.
Do you love Paris Maps?
Do you have a favorite street I should walk down and discover for you? PLEASE tell in the comments.
Included in the printed Paris map letter are various Paris souvenirs. Nearby Metro stations indicated.
I hope you'll have as much fun as I did rediscovering Paris!
This is a repost from 9 years ago

I panic when I get lost in Paris. I like to know where I am.
At least yesterday I learned where East-West & North-South is from Brigitte, my bouquiniste 📚
NYC was much easier. The streets are identified 👏 I need a compass 🧭

      Hi Carol,
Love your blog! Speaking of getting lost in Paris, have you ever read the book “Lost and Found in Paris” by Lian Dolan? She sets most of her novels in Pasadena, CA, but they’re truly great and entertaining, think you’d really enjoy them….I particularly enjoyed “Helen of Pasadena” the most, but they’re all super! 👍🇫🇷📚🥰

last year we did two large jigsaw puzzles of the paris street maps. Challenging even after knowing so many of them, but now i think i could drive a taxi there. I think walking along Rue Jean-Pierre Timbaud is great ..so many great food places to visit

  5. I have so many of your maps. Good luck on this new venture. When in Paris in May with my grandsons 9 & 13 I had fun teaching them how to read a map. They just do everything on their phones🗼❤️

Getting lost is one of the best ways to explore a place. 😄

Of course, Paris is especially interesting because the name of street can change 3-4 times with a little curve in it.

    Enjoy!

It’s fine getting lost when you’re a wandering tourist.
No so fine when you live here and are late for a rendezvous with someone.

  8. I still have lots of Gallerie Lafayette and Printemps maps from trips to Paris past -- I would always carry them so I could orient myself and find a Metro if needed. Also carried Metro maps to figure out how to change lines. With a good map, I could wander, get lost, and also find what I wanted (most of the time!). Yours are SOOO much more fun!! Thanks.

I love maps…especially yours. For our first trip to Paris, I studied a MapEasy forever. I don’t know if they even print them anymore. Yes, we got lost several times. The most amazing things happened to us while we were holding a map, unsure of how to go…one French gentleman helped us and another time, a French lady walked us to where we needed to be! Yes, the French are very friendly and helpful. I also purchased a linen towel at a store on Rue Cler that showed all the Metro stations.

  12. Lovely post, Carol! I am a lover of handwriting, lettering, and maps. If you are interested in an online class in French Cursive writing, there is a FREE course on the MontBlanc website.... Part 1 covers lower case letters, Part 2 is upper case. I am taking the course now and loving it. (And you don't need a fountain pen, a ballpoint, or even a pencil, will do!)

Interesting! Wow Do you need to be fluent in FRENCH? ✍️

    2. No... I know very little French. The course just covers learning the alphabet... and how to connect the letters. I know VERY LITTLE French, but I did purchase a book called "Learn French With Fairy Tales"... so maybe I'll pick up a few words from that?!

    3. And the course instruction is in English!

Getting lost in Paris wasn’t so much of a problem . Falling in Paris…that was my thing! The cobblestones and uneven pavement, mixed with this clumsy Canadian who was trying to take it all in, proved a dangerous combination. You could probably make a map of all the places I fell in Paris, including inside the national library! Thankfully, the French are kind people, “Mon Dieu” they exclaimed as they scraped me off the pavement with heartfelt concern. 🇨🇦❤️

There used to be a bump in the cobblestones on the corner. I face-planted quite a few times. Then they came and fixed it! No more falls.
I fractured my tibia early days on a construction site. You are not alone Nicole.

I like Rue Monsieur le Prince for it narrow, cobblestone street and tiny sidewalks and the history that is behind it; it was probably a garbage dump in very, very early Paris in the Roman times as it was slightly outside the 'city' as it was then...basically a road leading to the isles. It was the area where Sylvia Beach lived and where a lot of resistance during WW2 happened. I also love caramel candies but have lost a crown and an old filling due to this! Ouch! Love your map ideas!! We were lost for an hour last time I was in Paris trying to get to the Cluny which I had been to two times before..I also like Rue Clair even if it is touristy.

I cannot find the link for your Paris Maps subscription on Etsy. I want to purchase one for myself.. also, can you let me know when my granddaughter Eleanor’s (McLean, Va) expires as I want to renew it. She is now 14 and has the contents of your letters posted on all the walls of her bedroom.

J’adore maps! I collect them wherever I go (and actually use them). I am not a fan of using GPS. In fact was in a car recently with my GPS loving friend last week and she urged me to use GPS and sure enough, it took us on the wrong route and we ended up in a literal circle. I much prefer using a map where I can more easily see the entire route I am taking rather than letting tech tell me which way to go. I guess I prefer figuring it out for myself (and also think it’s helpful for me to use my brain as much as possible!).

Carol, I love rue St. Dominique between Avenue du Marechal Gaillieni and Avenue Bosquet. Very "neighborhood" and I where I prefer to stay when in Paris. Lots of restaurants and little shops. Being there makes me feel like I live there.
