The colors here are my colors..warm and REDS.

I've been trying to place the yellow

You see it everywhere.

Its Socca yellow! My dinner last night cos I couldn't find the restaurant on the map and the other was closed and, and. But I discover the nooks and crannies of the old town. Utterly delicious.

Isnt this a living Matisse? i must get to his museum here!!

What they are wearing. Long, loose, print, flowy. Relaxed.

This whole town is relaxed. And joyous. The colors must have that effect.

Last night at Place Massena.

Should I get this bag? Def Nice colors. Should I move to Nice? I am definitely coming back. Soon. Forget Provence. The Riviera is Fab!

Warm reds

Warm yellow-golds. Warm warm warm. And yes it is HOT in Nice..like maybe 40 with the humidity.

I took one look at the beach and decided not to..

I did go into ALZIARI, makers of famed virgin olive oil.

Their products are pretty good too. I went a little nuts.

Here's what I ate for lunch at L'Ybane on 1 rue de la Liberté. Chick peas 3 ways + some chicken brochette. (12€) I could eat this everyday. After Provence I want everything savory. Maybe its the heat?

Here's how I may look when I get back. Nice colors...ahem. SNFC throws these daily deals at you like -20€ and only +4€ for 1st class, so that's how come I'm in Nice at the moment. Impulsivity to blame. I'm taking the Riviera coast train to Menton today to paint. Only 32 minutes away. Provençal ochres in Villars

The colors of Provence are to die for

Especially the ochres. Ochre pigments come from nearby mines in Roussillon.

Sometimes I think my best watercolors end up on the color test swatches. Today I wanted to get those colors into some Provençal paintings.

Villars is a quiet, tiny hilltop town you never heard of. There isn't much there to draw tourists

But there is plenty for artists to draw.

Nice windows too...with cats sitting in them.

The colors of the faded ochre walls will make you melt.

That cat got moved around today.

A high point of Villars is their one and only boulangerie

With its still functioning wood-burning oven.

Villars is surrounded by fields of Rosé vineyards.

The other major high point is la Poste. I was captivated.

I painted it

2 times.

After working so hard in the sun you need to jump into a cool pool.

Voila.

L'Isle sur la Sorgue, anchovies

1st day at ARTS IN PROVENCE begins with shopping (to get it out of our systems) at big Saturday combo flea-food marché in L'Isle sur la Sorge - a must-do in Provence.

Let the shopping begin (& snacking) at les Delices du Luberon just on the edge of the marché.

Help yourself to endless tastes. I fell hard for anchovy paste, anchoiade. Are you a fan too?

I bought 5 containers and a free one thrown in.

Plus a big jar of the little fishies. They come from Collioure, anchovy HG. I must go there.

We arrived around 9 am when the town was quiet.

An hour later the throngs of shoppers arrived.

Along with the street flea there are warehouses full of antiques.

Hot Provençal colors.

Every kind of berry in the marché.

Delicious melons from nearby Cavaillon.

I parked myself in a cafe and sketched...best ringside seat to watch the action.

Look for typical Provence fashions. The raw linen look.

Its still the hippie 60s so bring along your long dresses and straw hats to Provence.
