Stephen Jones - Chapeaux Artiste, Palais Galleria

Yesterday

I went to the preview of British hat artist,

Probably the HOT ๐Ÿ”ฅ (fashion) show of the Paris ๐Ÿ season.

400 works in the exhibition - Jone’s famous red wool beret for Lady Diana.

Including more than 170 hats.

As a young boy Stephen Jones was mad about Paris after trips with his family to France ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท - his sequin beret topped with an Eiffel Tower.
The exhibition focuses on Jones close ties with French Couture ๐Ÿงต
He collaborated with designers Christian Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier,
Thierry Mugler, Comme des Garรงons, Louis Vuitton, Claude Montana etc. I wish the Palais Galleria did not place black pieces against black walls ๐Ÿ™ Is this a French thing? ๐Ÿซค MAD/musee des arts dรฉcoratifs does it too, making it difficult to photograph ๐Ÿ“ท
A room midway in the exhibition illustrates with window boxes
Jones’ brilliant creative process from research
To first sketches. LOVE ❤️ this hat made of sketches ✍️
To first fabrics to first shapes
To the final creation. This room alone is worth the price of admission.
Plus a video in Fr/Eng as Jones creates a special occasion hat for a demanding client. Jones says,“The British want Frenchy hats & the French want British-styled hats!”
There is always lightness, wit and whimsy to Jones’ hats like this triple Mad Hatter’s hat ๐ŸŽฉ In 2012, I showed Jones’ exhibit in New York at Bard Center.
The UK celebrates ๐ŸŽ‰ designer Jones with a special stamp ๐Ÿพ
You can buy your own Stephen Jones perfect beret in the Galleria museum shop (59€)
I haven’t begun to show what’s in this exhibition. I hope you get to visit the Palais Galleria - it’s on till March 3, 2025.
I left the Galleria a tad blitzed in the drizzle…
Across the street at patisserie Cyril Lignac
The Pastries all looked like hats! The shapes are perfect non? Bonne Vendredi dear PBers ๐ŸŽฉ ๐Ÿ‘’ ๐Ÿงข

  1. Love the sequin beret with the Eiffel Tower! In the 50's my Mother always wore a hat to church. She looked great in hats. Too bad I don't.๐Ÿ—ผ❤️๐Ÿ‘’

Hats used to be de rigueur…it’s sad we don’t use this adornment so much except in Winter ๐Ÿฅถ

My mother made her own hats - such a bit of whimsey.

Love hats, but they don’t always love me! The burgundy, slouchy, lush felt hat Jones is holding in his hands would be my first choice. My second would be a Cyril Lignac pastry…they are all very chapeau-like! Yum!

I feel the same way but I think if STEPHEN JONES designed you a hat ๐Ÿ‘’ , you would be very happy ๐ŸŽ‰

      Thank you Linda,
Jones did not use any Paris pastry shapes…don’t know why?

Never wear hats much anymore as I have a small head and most are too big & silly looking on me but I did buy a baseball cap from Messy Nessy Cabinet a few weeks ago and will wear it.

Ah…but a small head is perfect for certain hats, especially Stephen Jones Suki.
