Breakfast in Paris

Yesterday Kirk asked me if I go out

For breakfast everyday in Paris

I was a little surprised

It’s true when I was a tourist

I ate out most mornings

Sometimes I had TWO breakfasts

Especially if I was doing

Breakfast research πŸ”¬

And sketching ✏️ onsite

I am ALWAYS available for a breakfast ☕️ invitation πŸ‘☺️

For coffee ☕️ or un verre de vin? 🍷 not so much…I barely drink either.

Breakfast may be one of the best things about Paris besides the Eiffel Tower, among other high points…

Do you have a favorite place for petit dejeuner in Paris?

Maybe you like to go fancy and take breakfast

In a palace hotel like Hotel Meurice

Sometimes it’s worth it to splurge a little on breakfast ☺️ ‘Bucket list’ time 🀸‍♂️ πŸ‘

Or do you prefer a small nondescript Paris cafe?

Breakfast has become controversial. Once claimed the most important meal of the day, it’s been denigrated to a non-event.

Some people don’t even bother. Some are on Intermittent Fasting and Keto regimes etc. Some will only have hot oatmeal with blueberries daily!

I was wondering…what did Napoleon eat for breakfast:
Boiled or poached eggs
An omelette
A small leg of mutton
A cutlet,
A filet of beef
Broiled breast of lamb
Or a chicken wing
Lentils, beans in a salad
Wow! Occasionally I’ll have a hamburger πŸ” sans bun or small steak for breakfast. Now I know I’m in good company ☺️πŸ‘

Kirk was very forthcoming:
my favorite breakfast is a veggie omelette egg whites, dry cappuccino.
Hmm…probably not on the menu at Cafe Le Bonaparte.
So what did you eat for p’tit dej in Paris & where?

CafΓ© Γ‰tincelle (which used to be called the Low Rider cafΓ©) on rue de Rivoli and rue Bourg-Tibourg often has a special weekday breakfast for about 11 euros that includes scrambled eggs, tartine or croissant, juice, and hot beverage. A pleasant location very close to the Hotel de Ville and across from the occasional street market on place Baudoyer. Get there before 10:00 am for the special, or the price goes up steeply!

Our absolute favorite is early Christmas morning walking down an empty blvd Saint Germain to Les Deux Magots…sitting at a table on the deserted terrace…facing the Γ‰glise, with twinkling lights in the shrubbery…splashing out on the Sartre or Hemingway breakfast, ‘cause hey it’s Christmas!

Or, any old morning in a Paris rental apartment; sending hubby out for croissants while I put the kettle on for a pot of tea, setting the table with Bordier butter, Ferber jam, freshly squeezed orange juice…sigh.

    Love your breakfast watercolors. ❤️

We liked Le Flore on L’Ile. Staff spoke English and fully cooked my eggs! Lovely view of Notre Dame under construction and the occasional busker, sometimes with a piano, on the bridge.

      Wonderful place in general!
They used to have an adorable little shop around the corner, where you could blow €€€€on their china, nicknacks etc.
Now its by the loo downstairs.

For so many of us lovers of all things France, p’tit dejeuner is iconic. You made me have a wave of MUST GET TO PARIS ASAP. Isn’t the word SOUVENIR, the most precious! Thank you dear Carole! (Ok maybe only topped by P’tit dejeuner being delivered to you in bed!

  12. Last year when we stayed on the Île Saint-Louis we had breakfast every morning at Le Saint Régis. Their hot chocolate was to die for! While watching the last episode of The Diplomat on Netflix a few weeks ago, we just about fell off the sofa when we saw Keri Russell and her companion having steak frites there!

Maybe I should resubscribe to Netflix! (For the 6th time ☹️) Most French programs do not have Eng subtitles…I get so frustrated 😡‍πŸ’«

My mouth is watering looking at those big open jars of confiture! I love inspecting the labels on things in your photos. Is Curtelin jam available in the USA?

My favorite is Le Paul Bert in the Puces. You can go big (American or English) or small (French). It is fantastic and a fun place to be in general.

When I've gone to France I have done 3 different things for breakfast...either stayed in a house that we rented and had to go shopping for breakfasts to prepare, which is marvelous because you've mouth watered your way through grocery stores. Another favorite is getting a cup of coffee and a fresh croissant...maybe fruit and people watching, at any cafe.i absolutely love it. Lastly when staying in a hotel and going to their breakfast buffet. Each place is different, charming with a great selection of foods. I love coffee, yogurt, fresh fruit, croissant, and I will take a hard boiled egg..a cheese or two, and maybe top it off with a delicious pastry. The French do breakfast in the hotels so well. Is it because of the business people that come to Paris and it's best and easiest to have breakfast in your hotel and head out for a business meeting and such? Regardless I've never been disappointed in breakfast at a hotel in Paris.

  18. One of the best Sunday brunches (or afternoon tea) right now is at Cedric Grolet Opera, where the croissants & viennoiseries are DIVINE, so tender & flaky. Hard to get a reservation now because his Instagram videos are so delightful and fun to watch that everyone wants to eat there! https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cp5KuAyoWUf/?igshid=ZjUwM2YwMzA3MA==
