Yesterday I took a break from arm-wrestling the September Paris Mapto go Uptown…yes I know it’s 30 Septembre, but I’ve been arm wrestling 🤼♀️ all week with Ines…
It’s PWF (Paris Fashion Week). I hate missing out on what’s going on. Dior is showing bubble skirts evidently…
Palais Galliera celebrates Frida Kahlo (1907-1954), one of the most recognized and influential artists of the 20th century. I was going to post on Frida on Thursday. Then I fell down the rabbit hole of Paris chocolates and fashion windows.
The Kahlo exhibition is the first in Paris to focus more on her image and clothing collections and their influence than her paintings. It’s a way to understand how she built an identity by how she presented herself and represented herself in her own paintings.
This past weekend was the annual big event in France in September. Journees du Europeanees Patrimoine, when many private and public institutions, including the Elysées Palais (you must reserve way in advance for the Elysees) open their doors to public viewing.
On Sunday I went to Garde Républicaine, 5 minutes from my house, on boulevard Henri IV. They did not require reservations. Attendees dress accordingly like this woman in red jacket and navy pants to co-ordinate with the garde.
It was packed with all kinds of delicacies like this gorge salad from Azerbaïdjan
So many dishes, many of which I had no clue what to order😳
What to eat from Tahiti?
or the Philippines?
Frustrating!!
I did recognized the divine coconut ice cream🍦 from Senegal. I had it at the Salon de l’Agriculture so I got on the long line and waited. And waited. After 45 minutes watching them hand-crank and churn and churn the ice I walked away😳
There were plenty of parades to distract from the tragique loss.
The Saudis were giving away delicious dates and free tea.
No way did I go away hungry. I had a cone of jambon from Espana. The cooking school from the big professional market, Rungis was giving away sparkly mint drinks and madeleines with sorbet🤸♂️
Meanwhile Paris cafes are jam-packed with returned Summer people wearing summer clothes known as ‘les effortless’ to show off their perfect Summer tans.
Meanwhile there are signs everywhere announcing LA RENTREE
Of back-to-school treasures. Did you know the French start their new Agendas in August? See above picture. Why? please do tell. I am never ready to think about the next year in August.
Don’t you love ❤️ the classic green French portfeuille? So tempting even though I already have 5-6 of them.
And it’s personalized with your name on it. Meanwhile the bateaux mouches, are of course full of tourists etc. enjoying the gorgeous weather in the 70s-80s👏
