Hotel Caron de Beaumarchais, Marais

 

It isn't everyday you get to have petit dejeuner with Marie-Antoinette 👑 

But I did last Sunday at Hotel Caron de Beaumarchais

As I was passing on Saturday, on a whim, I went inside to ask if If I could have breakfast even though I was not a resident at the hotel. 

Their response was,”Of course.”👏👏👏🤸‍♂️

This is my dream Paris hotel in the Marais. 

I often stop and gaze in their windows on rue Veille-du-Temple, usually filled with antique bibelots like this enamel snuff box. 

The hotel’s namesake, Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais, lived on rue Veille du Temple. He born on January 24, 1732 in Paris, a polymath. He was a writer, musician, secret agent, a businessman, first publisher of Voltaire and the playwrite who wrote the  Marriage of Figaro and The Barber of Seville.

Beaumarchais had 3 charming wives no doubt. This is his harp student, Marie Adelaide, one of the daughters of Louis XV.

It’s a step back into the 18th century

In 1759, as a distinguished favor, Beaumarchais was appointed harp professor to the 4 daughters of King Louis XV, who resided at court i.e. the harp in the entrance.

I loved the decorative period vignettes scattered around the hotel and couldn’t resist painting a few.

My breakfast was divine (13€) Peut-être too divine. I ate too much jam to go to the pool 🏊‍♀️ afterwards…
