It’s La Rentrée! September Letter

Yesterday I went up to les Jardins de Trocadero

To the 4-day Fete de Gastronomie

The atmosphere was celebratory🥂
It was packed with all kinds of delicacies like this gorge salad from Azerbaïdjan

So many dishes, many of which I had no clue what to order😳

What to eat from Tahiti?

or the Philippines?

Frustrating!!

I did recognized the divine coconut ice cream🍦  from Senegal. I had it at the Salon de l’Agriculture so I got on the long line and waited. And waited. After 45 minutes watching them hand-crank and churn and churn the ice I walked away😳

There were plenty of parades to distract from the tragique loss.

The Saudis were giving away delicious dates and free tea.
No way did I go away hungry. I had a cone of jambon from Espana. The cooking school from the big professional market, Rungis was giving away sparkly mint drinks and madeleines with sorbet🤸‍♂️
Meanwhile Paris cafes are jam-packed with returned Summer people wearing summer clothes known as ‘les effortless’ to show off their perfect Summer tans.
Meanwhile there are signs everywhere announcing
LA RENTREE
Meanwhile the kids are back in school.
Sadly we lost the great French artist, SEMPÉ last month. Creator of La Petit Nicolas and so many New Yorker covers along with many other treasures😢
Meanwhile the papetterie shops are full
Of back-to-school treasures. Did you know the French start their new Agendas in August? See above picture. W
hy? please do tell. I am never ready to think about the next year in August.
Don’t you love ❤️ the classic green French portfeuille? So tempting even though I already have 5-6 of them.
Meanwhile the FALL PARIS LETTERS are in la poste📮🤸‍♂️🥂👏
And it’s personalized with your name on it.
Meanwhile the bateaux mouches, are of course full of tourists etc. enjoying the gorgeous weather in the 70s-80s👏
Meanwhile Bon/Bonne Dimanche & Bon Rentrée dear PBers

Another day in Paris, another food fair! So many exotic choices. Love that rendition of the Eiffel Tower on that poster…so apropos.

French children need to have a new agenda each year when school begins so perhaps sales of agendas are geared to their calendar. Papeterie shops in France are irresistible. Les vitrines de la rentrée. ❤️

I started using an “academic planner” when my daughter first started school. In the US, academic planners begin in July. I found it easier to track the entire school year in one academic planner which runs July thru June rather than needing to use two planners that run January thru December.

  9. Just want to say how much I enjoy your emails from Paris. Do you happen to know if one can order a poster that was used for the food expo you posted?

The poster is really fun isn’t it..but they were not even selling them at the event. Big mistake in my opinion.

I always love your blog. Such lovely pictures! But today’s post reminded me of le petit Nicolas whom I have not seen since high school many years ago. Thank you for the happy memory!

I haven’t been to one of those int’l food events since Mexico City. Like you, I didn’t know what to choose. I like your ending photos of the Seine. Today’s is gorgeous with the white boat and billowy clouds.
