Remember dear Bosie Tea Parlor - they had macarons.
It was TARTE City.
Financier's tarte au framboise pistache..
Neck-and-neck competition from Payard Bakery's tarte au fraise.
Plus lecons how-to-eat-a-tarte au fraise.
Will even PIERRE HERME be coming to NYC soon and show up at annual Bastille day?
This year's Bastille was more Frenchie and less quelle ordinaire street fair stuff. Ode a la Rose is brand new - a kind of Au Nom de la Rose for New York with lovely bouquets.
Wines of Provence had fabulous pink color swatches to match all these varieties of Rose - the only wine Parisians like to drink in summertime...
Le Palais des Thes gave out free tastes of tea.
I LOVE Les Caneles de Celine's lime caneles (lemon and pistache too) and tiny pistache financier- so crispy.
I hope she opens a shop soon but you can order online...
Bien sur there were savory things to eat like merguez..
PLEASE come next year to New York's Bastille day!
I'll announce the winners tomorrow.
BONJOUR BASTILLE DAY NYC 2011
LOVE the macarons from Patisserie Poupon! Actually, I love almost everything from them!
ReplyDeleteI wish you had mentioned it sooner Meg?
ReplyDeleteThey did not have any free tastes so one was left wondering...
Have you have their Ispahan?
Have you written about them?
I'm all ears and eyes
This looks absolutely amazing! I wish this kind of event would be held in my state! :) Macs, macs, and more macs!
ReplyDeleteI am setting in the Tampa Fl airport waiting for a flight to Ecuador and a note fell out of my of my bag from my recent trip to Paris to research Cafe Richard. Out of all the Google choices I chose your blog. What a lucky pick. Reading you blog and lookinig at your wonderful art has taken most of the pain out of this adventure.
ReplyDeleteThank, Ken
Merci beaucoup Ken and bon voyage!
ReplyDeleteCafe Richard - a page from my Paris Breakfast past..
These macarons look very good! When I was in NYC, this Bastille Day always made me laugh! It's funny to see all these French cuisine in just one place. You chose the right dishes, for sure. le 14 juillet c'est bientot en France avec les fabuleux feux d'articile du Champs de Mars.
ReplyDeleteI'll be there and tell you!
You are going to make macaroons?
ReplyDeleteWhat an adventure! please share when the time arrives.
Now my only question, will you drink them with tea, or rose wine?
xx

Wow! Another Bastille celebration? I'm going to have to come over next year to NYC, then fly back in time for the French one on the 14th! Fantastic array of goodies - love all your photos and can feel that ambience... fantastic!
ReplyDeleteP.S. not praying for you on making the macarons - you won't need it and will be just fine. :-)
That looks so fabulous! I'd love to go someday... In the meantime, we'll have our own celebration chez nous!
ReplyDeleteBonne Journee!
OK MAD ABOUT MACARONS...
ReplyDeleteThen pray for my sad old oven.
I am
You'll do great, I just know it: anything you throw yourself into turns to gold, Carol. You'll be the queen of macarons before you know it. Good luck! Pictures, m'lle!! This looks like it must have been good fun.
ReplyDeleteDear Carol,
ReplyDeleteTrust me,you will need prayers! I tried making macarons here, TWICE. Each time they turned out not-so-great (that's putting it mildly.....) I'm thinking since you're such a smart chick, you will have much better luck.
Bonne chance!

all that's missing are the accordions and the dancing!
ReplyDeleteIn "my" covered market they now sell a giant macaron, solde as a "tarte"! Excellent!
ReplyDeleteNice to seee so many people around..., perhaps more for the eating and drinking than for the symbol of July 14th? :-)
I can't wait for your baking insights!!! Les macs are NOT to be attempted in Kansas till October, when the humidity falls!!!
ReplyDeleteOF COURSE there were accordions and the dancing!
ReplyDeleteI didn't bother to shoot those...ahem
:)
Jeanette:
I read that humidity has NOTHING TO DO with making macarons
another Macaron myth...
The oven is the biggie plus figuring out the new Cuisine art :(
And the NEW metric scale.
Oui Peter I heard a lot of French being spoken between stuffing their faces...what symbol?
Bonjour Carol! I was there too! How did I miss that tomato tart?!? Probably because I couldn't elbow my way through the crowd. So crowded!
ReplyDeleteI had a wonderful vegetarian sandwich with fried green tomato, basil pesto, mozzarella and arugula from Financier Patisserie.
I wonder how the Bastille Day celebration in Brooklyn compares?
that tomato tart has given me an idea of what to prepare for our casse croute during French Class this Thursday, JULY 14!
ReplyDeleteMERCI

Yesterday I was there too! Wow! So many people! I had a great time :)
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful. It looks fantastic and the nearest thing to being in France. I am embracing Bastille day myself with French friends on thursday - it should be so much fun and I am looking forward to it. I seem to have missed something with your little contest - too much traveling.
ReplyDeleteX
That was tasty! Vive la France! Great post Carol...
ReplyDeleteWhat can I say but "Miam-miam!" Do tell about your macaron-making adventure...
ReplyDeleteIf only I'd known! I would have been there, without fail!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of every variety, Carol.
ReplyDeleteThe tarts look fabulous!
48 for research purposes? Your research does involve taste tests non? It must! At least a few of them bien sur madame! Everything looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteI always wanted to go to Paris on Bastille day ever since I saw "Paris When It Sizzles."
The Wanderfull Traveler
Kentucky pastry chef Stella of the blog Bravetart swears that macarons aren't hard or mysterious. Maybe her macaron myth busting post will help if you need your nerves calmed or steeled. Bon chance! And do tell.

I'll have to make my way to NYC next year for quatorze juillet. You've given me yet another reason to visit NY (never been, can you believe that?)
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm 100% sure by then, you will be the NY Queen of Macarons....and we'll all be buying your macs!
I was there too! Wow!
ReplyDeleteSo many people!
I had a great time
This year was better than ever!
