Grandes Serres Tropical 🌴 Jardin des Plantes

Stepping into a wild jungle 🌴

When the rest of the world πŸ—Ί️
Seems to be going to hell

In a hand basket 🧺

Is not a bad idea πŸ‘

Last week I was
invited to a

Palm Tree 🌴 exposition

At Grandes Serres - Jardin des Plantes

Have you ever been?

As soon as I entered I was reminded of Matisse’s vibrant palms 🌴

Jardin des Plantes probably never appeared

On your Paris πŸ₯ must-do list.
I also love their menagerie.

The toucan will guide you to all the fun facts on Palm Trees 🌴
Toucans eat the fruit of palm trees.

I got carried away with drawing the toucans…

I get invited to these previews because

I sketch ✍️ onsite = resident artiste πŸ§‘‍🎨

I discovered I ❤️ Palm Trees 🌴

Did you know Palms are not
trees? 🌳

But related to lilies and grasses.
Did you know painter Henri Rousseau painted jungles without ever leaving home 🏑
Palm trees grow mostly in tropical areas and deserts, but I saw palms 🌴 this morning in Paris.
They are called Palms because their fronds resemble hands πŸ™Œ
The funny thing is

Since last week I keep bumping into Toucan.
Karmic destiny?
The other funny thing is w
ith my collection of maybe 1,001 brushes,
I am mostly painting
With chopsticks πŸ₯’ Life is full of surprises.
What do you think?
Funny thing is…when I went to eat my Asian noodle soup πŸ₯£ I discovered I had no more wooden chopsticks to eat it with.
Best commentary
 imo from Leeja Miller.
Veronika on YouTube explains about looting.
I went yesterday to a very crowded, but wonderful new exhibit, GUSTAVE FEYET at Fondation Louis Vuitton.
Report coming soon.
πŸ–Ό️
I added more color to MarchΓ© des Enfants Rouge to make it more fun πŸŽ‰

I worry that visitors miss out on this rich combination of gardens, menagerie and museums.

I've been to Munich's greenhouses, which includes a palm tree house, but not this one in Paris. Putting it on my to-do list now :-).

THANK YOU! I have noticed it without seeing πŸ‘️ it.
      • Opened: 1992
      • Inspiration: Created at the suggestion of a comparative anatomy scientist from the adjacent MusΓ©um National d'Histoire Naturelle to raise awareness about biodiversity loss and species extinction.

I love palm trees. All the varieties.
And how they define long ago landscapes.

      Thanks Annie
I love palm trees too. So romantic and majestic.
      They are mostly hurricane-proof.
They bend but do not break in high winds.

I loved the Jardin des Plantes but wasn't there during a special exhibit. I watched Heather's video yesterday and found it very interesting.

Thanks for linking to Heather Stimmler Hall’s video. I increased the speed 1 1/2 times and went careening through the streets of Paris with her…like Mister Toad’s Wild Ride! The international press loves to magnify anything negative coming out of France. Not to minimize the very real problems that France faces, like many western countries.

Only you, a TOUR DE FRANCE bike watcher would do that!
Her video is Very slow. I raced ahead.

My wife and I visited the Jardin in July to see the Natural History Museum which was stunning. If you have not been there, it is really worth a visit.

Thanks for the Secrets of Paris video. Great view of Paris by a resident on an eBike, with commentary. Seems she had her son riding along with her. Now I know what riding on an eBike is like. She’s brave in that traffic, and knows the city inside out

I loved your latest sketches from the JardΓn des Plantes.
During my last trip to Paris I found myself by the river side of the JardΓn as we disembarked from the river taxi and walked towards the center of town.
It is so fascinating to discover new ways of arriving at favorite and new places waiting to be explored by changing the routes one takes. SS
