Salon du Fromage 2024

Flags are flying at Porte de Versailles no matter the rainy ☔️ weather through 3 March

Mini flags ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ are flying at the Spanish stand (HO69) at Salon du Fromage second day of a 3-day tasting fair. What a clever way to show a cheese’s origins & to grab a sample ๐Ÿ‘

You know I ❤️ anything miniature
many mini flags came home. And ๐Ÿง€ samples too.

290 purveyors

Presenting 448 cheese brands

From 15 countries including Ireland (DO59) and Japan

That is a lot of cheese ๐Ÿง€ to taste!

I didn’t realize cheese is always displayed under transparent domes, though most don’t look like a Swiss Alps ๐Ÿ”️ slalom.

Perhaps domes capture cheese ๐Ÿง€ aromas best? They lift the dome. You get a fragrant whiff ๐Ÿ‘ƒ like at perfume counters?

This is the first year Salon du Fromage is open to the public.

Here! Carve yourself a huge hunk of Parmigiana ๐Ÿ‘
You could buy a ticket last month and pay half (15€). If you bought a ticket ๐ŸŽŸ️ yesterday (35€).

Ample samples were trรจs abondant

Except, as always for butter ๐Ÿงˆ king, Maison Bordier. Nice display. People waiting patiently. Nothing happening ๐Ÿ™„ I moved on. Maybe you have to go to Saint-Malofor a taste ๐Ÿ˜€

Of course there are cheese lectures included and cheese contests. The French ❤️ LOVE ๐Ÿฅ‡ foodie contests/concours. Even an international grilled cheese contest I was sad ๐Ÿ˜ข to miss.

This looks like an cheese demo taking place.

It’s not. It’s a miniature demo inside a box ๐Ÿ˜€

And not just cheese ๐Ÿง€ tasting is on offer

ALWAYS look for the words, ‘Lait Cru’ for best quality from small producers when buying cheese ๐Ÿง€ in France. ‘Lait pasteurize’ is industrially produced.

Palate chasers - quince & fig paste

I loved ❤️ witty Pavรฉ de Paris (BO92) which looks pavรฉ/ cobblestones on my street. Creamy layers of ๐Ÿ„ milk + ๐Ÿ milk ๐Ÿ‘

Salon du Fromage continues today until 7:00/19:00. You cannot buy the cheese ๐Ÿง€ on display to bring home.

But go down one floor in Halle 7 and there is plenty to bring home at Salon  d’Agriculture on through Sunday.

I happily brought home my cloves from Mayotte. 100 grams/3 ounces for 5€. Cloves are rare and difficult to hand gather from tall trees. I may go back for another bag..

If you can’t attend the salon today

  1. A good way to spend a rainy day…tasting cheese๐Ÿง€! How does one cleanse the pallet after so many bites? I guess it doesn’t matter, it’s all just fun!๐Ÿ—ผ❤️

      Very good point Daina ๐Ÿ‘
There is wine ๐Ÿท and quince jams as palette cleansers.

“Drinking a glass of water, eating a lemon wedge or an unsalted cracker, a slice of apple. Doing this between bites allows you to taste the full flavor of the cheese and truly appreciate its complexity.”

      Definitely a cheese heaven experience
      Everything was tempting.
Savory can be more tempting and complex then sweet sometimes.

Carol, I've never wished that I could go to a wine-tasting, but have sure wished I could go to a cheese-tasting party. So many kinds/flavors and too expensive to buy many to taste "just to see" for this girl. I only discovered Brie on a plane not long ago! When I saw that big chunk of parmigiana, it reminded me of Samuel Pepys burying his own in his garden during the great fire of London.
I get jealous when I see all the wonderful things you can go out and do on weekends there. So lovely. We DO have the eclipse coming right over here but darn it doesn't involve chocolate or macarons.

Thank you for the Samuel Pepys story of burying his own Parmigiana in his garden during the great fire of London!!
I am with you on cheese ๐Ÿง€ tasting vs wine ๐Ÿท tasting & you end up drunk๐Ÿ‘
I know some choose just one flavor to explore at these grand tastings.
I’m more hap hazard. Whatever presents itself I glom onto.

All that cheese in one spot would be quite overwhelming, but in a good way. We did a cheese tasting on our last visit and it was so much fun we're going to do it again this year.

It was a little overwhelming to see so many cheese brands in one place.
      How to choose?
There were guided cheese ๐Ÿง€ tastings going on as well.

Another jealous comment!! Cheese tasting on such a grand scale…wow! Everything looks yummy. Did you try the fig-almond cake with your cheese? Europeans have such creative cheese pairings.

Hope you get to go back to the Salon again so we can live vicariously through you!
