Sundays in Paris = Vide-Grenier

Sunday morning in Paris is not just having croissants 🥐 and petit déjeuner☕️

Last Sunday I saw a couple lugging plastic modular 60’s chairs down the street. I asked them,”Objet trouvé?” Did you find them in the street? Non, non we got them at the vide-grenier.

Did you know Paris has big yards sales every weekend called Vide-Grenier
They take place  regularly on the first Sunday of every month in Paris. Plus other weekends if you check SortiraParis.
I knew those red and blue plates were special, but I turned around for a second. When I turned back they were being wrapped up. Hesitate at a vide-grenier and you lose.
I got my très authentic denim jacket for a 5er at a Sunday vide-grenier. Even though I rarely wear it because it is sooo heavy…a guy’s jacket no doubt.
The next vide-grenier will be this weekend, August 13-15
on Pont Saint-Louis and Pont Louis-Philippe. You can find Paris weekly dates here.
Hmm…by the way if you long for a print of Notre Dame there is one in my Etsy shop
I saw this cute bear on Sunday but resisted.
Some of you asked about dear Bear🐻 PB collector Alison from Scotland dropped in to check on Bear. He is getting a tad moth-eaten😳
Also Jeanie commented I love your new mailchimp look -- much cleaner than before and it looks fabulous! All changes on Parisbreakfast are due to the brilliant Linda of Life and Linda.👏👏👏 Please consult Linda if your blog needs sprucing up.
Sunday’s ‘ice cream of the day’ was from
Bältis, with Lebanese flavors. The must-have flavor is achta based on milk cream, scented with orange blossom, pistachio sap and orchid root, then coated with pistachio bits. Très Yummy!

On the way home, crossing Pont Sully I always check on Notre Dame…

A French woman was blowing kisses

To riders on the Bateaux-Mouches. As she passed me, she said, “Paris est beau, non?” (Paris is beautiful no?) I answered, “Vous habité ici?” She pointed in the opposite direction and I pointed towards my house. Who says Parisiens aren’t friendly 😊 Please s
hare PB with a friend. Indulge yourself and Get Paris letters and watercolors in your mailbox📮

I think my letters fell through the cracks in transition> it’s nice to get them again. However, the only option I have is to post as anonymous—if I go to my Google account it takes me back to the top of your post. Cheers..Susie Kaylor

    2. Also if you use. Different browser like Chrome and you are signed in, it is more likely you will be able to sign as yourself instead of anonymous.

  2. So sad to see Bear in such a state - can't someone spruce him up a bit for you? I would certainly help him out if I were lucky enough to be there.

  3. I love those electric fans. They are works of art. Hope you're surviving the heat.

I am pretty sure that is a woman's denim jacket. If it was a man's it would button the opposite way. It will be nice when the heat leaves us.

I stand corrected. Thank you! From the Smithsonian — To insure that an enemy's lance point would not slip between the plates, they overlapped from left to right, since it was standard fighting practice that the left side, protected by the shield, was turned toward the enemy. Thus, men's jackets button left to right even to the present day.

  6. I'm not sure how I long ago you made the change, but at last I am receiving your emailed blog! Merci! I think whoever got the cups needs the polkadot table cloth, too.

  7. Hi Carol, How is the Vide-Grenier different from a Brocant? Did you purchase anything?

A Brocante entails more serious antique dealers with much higher prices. Best of all are the annual ‘yard sales’ where Parisians in a particular neighborhood can buy a spot, setup and sell off all the junk in their house for a song!

If I’d been at the yard sale it would have been SO difficult for me! Thank YOU for going and reporting!

  9. Jean jackets make me feel young:) I still have a very oversized RL one from the 70's..A keeper..Especially since Yellowstone..then I have smaller ones.I used to embellish them and sell them at our charity auction at work in the 80's..Styles change:)Linda is a mercurial talent.I have only been to vgs in Provence:)

What a lovely Sunday you had, C! All that and ice cream too. Hope Bear has a wee wet t-shirt for the canicule. ❤️

I was flirting with other items in fact but I only had small change in my bag as protection…a beautiful book on Issey Miyaki Pleats Please. And now he just passed and I regret not buying it for a song.

  15. As an easy reminder: Women's clothes are right over left; men get the leftovers!!! I will remember the vide-greniers for my next trip to Paris! Merci, Carol!

  16. I have been to a couple of vide grenier before and come home with some small things -- a children's book, a small spoon I use in my salt cellar, that sort of thing. My friend Jerry is a VG maniac and comes out with the best things. I told him he should be a vendor!
