Gracias A La Vida

Yesterday morning the Paris map was driving me nuts as usual. Its finished now. 🤸🏾‍♀️Hurray! A petite distraction was essential. An early run to Boulanger de la Tour for something crunchy 🥐 Glancing out the window it looked overcast.

Notre Dame was hidden in mist.

‘Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays’ the Paris runner/footer

Same goes for the Paris pigeon.

I’m on pont de la Tournelle if you’re wondering.

So many runners. I keep thinking I’ll go out early and walk.

Or climb stairs. I think I’ll just watch.

Look! The Republican Guard exercising their horses. Always thrilling.

I went to

Boulanger de la Tour

And got their crunchy, sugar dusted almond croissant 🥐 and finished it for dinner. Still drawing ✏️ literary cats of Colette and Francoise Sagan for distraction.
Gracias la vida ❤️💋🐻

  1. One of my favorite posts... but I think I say that every time! I can feel the chill when I see misty Paris. These are some of your most beautiful photos. I LOVE seeing the bridges & the “zoom out” shots are stunning. I miss Paris , I hope I get there soon. In the meantime your photos and posts make me so happy! Merci & bisous à toi💚🇫🇷

  2. Thank you Mary,
Its not chilly yet thank goodness! 60 degrees!
But it was exceptionally misty and foggy. And because it was Veteran’s Day not much traffic.
I don’t remember seeing this before but usually I’m still at home at 9AM making hot chocolate.
I should go out early more often I guess :))

  3. Wonderfully atmospheric photos! New England is experiencing the same stretch of unseasonably warm weather with fog...sadly we don’t share your view or almond croissants. Glad your latest Paris Map is completed. Loving your literary cats.

  4. The way you capture Paris in your photographs is so beautiful. I makes me melancholy. Thanks okay because later today I am going to make David Lebovitz's Belgian hot chocolate.
    All the best.

  7. It was extremely foggy here in NW Indiana this morning. Is there almond cream in those almond croissants? I want one and they don't make them here. ;-(

  8. Notre Dame in fog. Wow -- that's a stunning view. And the croissants look to die for!

  9. Almond paste inside...different from cream. More like marzipan.

  11. Thanks Karen,
Along with the local flora and fauna, I like to show a few natives in my snaps.

  12. It’s freezing here in the San Francisco Bay Area. Your pics are so pretty. Love the kitty drawings. The croissants look wonderful. San Jose is so dull compared to your life in Paris.
    Does Paris celebrate Thanksgiving?

  13. Thanks Mary!
Oh I’m as glued to the news as you are. Riveting and terrifying.
Some French like to play at TG...and there are plenty of places offering dinners (take-away this year). The French do not GET cranberry sauce in my opinion. Or dressing etc. They get too creative adding truffles etc. :((

Marcia C. Dont forget they are day-old croissants, smashed and refilled with frangipane/almond paste. Then rebaked. So not impossible to duplicate!

  14. I like all the very atmospheric photos. Most envious of the favored almond croissant. Et j’adore les chats !! I want them! I think that you could do a series of them on a page organized in some fabulous Carol way.

  15. I dont think I’m good at group cat portraits. One figure/cat is hard enough to capture!
One has to admit one’s limitations..though a group of croissants is much easier 🥐🥐

Thank you for the misty morning walk around familiar rues of Paris. It is also a misty and chilly morning in Portland, Oregon. My husband is making a cappuccinos to enjoy with croissants from our favorite Ken's Boulangerie. We need sustenance to read the NYT. Your almond croissant looks delicious.

  18. Those pictures are some of your best ever - I love the romantic misty look. I'm not a fan of almond paste - prefer pain au chocolate . Finally started watching Emily in Paris last night -laughed a lot and really enjoyed the scenery.

Amazing to see so many joggers in Paris now. 10 or 15 years ago, if one saw a jogger it had to be an American!!! I remember when they made fun of us.......lol!

  23. I've long ago lost track of how often I've had the pleasure of scrolling through your posts.
The many subjects you've shared with your viewers, the elegant water colors, preliminary sketches,
    adventures with your friend "Bear,"
BUT! This post is so very elegant.
The photographs, and the wonderful contrasts of major mid-tones,
Contrasted by the stark gentle bite of dark darks..is exhilerating.
    Such a pleasure to experience.

  24. You must be off to buy stamps or mail the next Paris Letter. I enjoyed seeing your sketches before your last post. Since Palais Royal was on my mind I recognized some of the names. Didier Ludot, Grand Vefour. I used to buy perfume at Parfume de Rosine.
