R comme Rayure/stripes

 French Stripe/rayure doodle.
 Stripe training.
 Starts early if you're French.
 And basically never ends.
Is the Breton sailor shirt the origin.
Of this committment to the stripe? Qui sait?

Almost everyone wants to be French, so start the day by drinking your coffee out of a striped cup.

Dinner? Alway eat off a striped plate and you're set.

Buy pastries only from striped trucks like Lenotre.

Only cross the street at the striped zebras and you'll feel instantly French.
Dressing head-to-toe in stripes is de rigeur and will never be considered de trop
Food?
Only eat striped macarons rayures from Jean-Paul Hevin to feel completement French.
cet comme ca
Bon chance!

  3. It never ceases to amaze me how you come up with each and all of these funky visual themes, Carol.
You just keep pulling them out of a bottomless (and stripped?) bag of goodies.

  4. Yes, the French love their stripes, and not just on the Coast. I wrote a story about La Mariniere (The French Sailor shirt) a few months ago. You might be interested in checking it out: Lots, and lots of stripes! ;-)

  6. strippy sketch is wonderful with Bear so chic! Love the tees-I have blk/ wht,grey/ wht, blk/grey, navy/wht, French blue/ cream, lime green/ wht, red/wht & orange & wht. I've noticed narrower stripes are not as optically fattening as the wider ones. I wear my wider ones anyway with a solid jacket.

  7. This post is right up my ally today. I spent the morning looking around our small town for some black & creme small stripe decorator fabric to make some curtains. I struck out. :( Maybe I need to go to Paris to find it. :))

  12. Stripetastic post, Carol:-)

Does wearing a striped Breton sailor shirt while reading this post (yes, I do!) mean more brownie, er, macaron points? ;-)

  13. You are right about stripes – we do love them. I remember when I was about 10 my mother making me a white dress with red stripes for the 14 Juillet. I wore it with blue shoe and a blue ribbon in my hair and loved it. I also had many “marinière” as French Girl in Seattle pointed out. I believe the stripes are as typical as the béret.

  17. I am a new follower...found you while googling "What to wear in Paris"...! My husband and I are going in March for our 10 year anniversary. We went originally for our honeymoom.
I am really enjoying your blog, and by the way...have many striped items in my closet, so it's nice to know I'm already a little french!
