La Pâtisserie Viennoise

This post is for M. who tempts us with Demel's chocolate & Sacher Torte.
La Pâtisserie Viennoise is tucked away on a little side street, on a corner, easy to miss. I pass it often on the way to the copy shop.

It was in David Lebovitz' Paris Hot Chocolate Address Book.
I tried to make it to every hot chocolate ☕️ address on the list - a big undertaking.

I love all the Frenchie type on Paris' windows. I can't resist taking pictures.
All manner of Viennese pastries on offer:
Black Forest cake - the same as Sacher Torte
Their strudel is renown. Plus other viennoiseries
I stayed with a cup of hot chocolate (schokolade mit schlage / whipped cream) barely sweetened, intensely chocolatey.

There's an old-fashioned feeling to this student hangout. It's a favorite of Sorbonnoises and pretty small. One of Paris' hidden petit trésors/ little treasures.
It never hurts to practice reading French ecriture cursive on an ardoise / blackboard menu before you take off for France. It may be the only menu you'll see in some restaurants.
*La Pâtisserie Viennoise is closed weekends.
 ☕️ Bon Dimanche ☕️

You're posts make me feel like I go somewhere beautiful and exciting everyday. I live in an engineering town in Indiana, so these images are a welcome sight for my eyes. Thanks!

I've always liked the French ecriture--those little blackboards remind me of restaurants in VA I used to go to that used those--always enjoy that. Great painting with the saucy red, Carol!

The blackboard reminds me of one a friend gave me years ago. Another Friend gave me the French words for coffee, tea and hot chocolate I wrote on with white chalk.I have it in my kitchen and love looking at it. Makes me feel a bit like I am in Paris. How fun to see them here.

I wonder if that's the only Viennese pastry shop in Paris..?
    Adorable!

  6. Harvey just asked if I wanted something to eat and I said I wasn't hungry. I clicked onto this and now I am starving. You should be available to all people with no appetite.

  7. Very informative, and lovely as well. You are making me a bit homesick. I shall have to make a run up to Paris before all the tourists arrive.

Your site is a feast for the eyes. I love your artwork. Do you sell prints? Do you have a gallery in Paris, or only NYC?

  8. Carol, you are the sweetest of the sweet! I had taken the day off today, and enjoyed the good life between Kohlmarkt, Heiligenkreuzerhof and Kärntner Strasse. Without knowing that you were thinking of me, I though of you too. :-) I will post today's pictures over the next several days, today I managed only to put up a temporary post. I am powered out. Merci, see you soon in Vienna! :-)))

  9. Yum! Is hot chocolate one of the universal beverages out there? I just returned from a 2 week stint in Italy where of course(!) the local varieties were sampled. It was like drinking thick, hot pudding out of tiny chic cups. Many, many flavors available as well. It was hard to decide between hot chocolate and gelato - couldn't really do both in one sitting. :-)

  11. I just ran across your blog. I am in love with everything French. I love your blog. I can't wait to go to France. (I am a very bad flyer/traveler) I'm working on that.

The "ardoise" reminds me of school.

But visiting this café can't give me Merisi's wonderful images from Vienne, can they?

I had coffee at a newly opened café downtown Trondheim today, thinking of both you and Merisi.

Thanks for so much inspiration. You make me see the world with new eyes.

And you're so clever, Carol, to put in a real small chocolat in the image we see! PS: How many Ts in Gillo.., please?

Today's post is for you, albeit unfinished. Sweet life is calling me, but I shall finish by tonight.

  18. My girlfriend and I were in Paris about a month ago and we stumbled across this place. Unbelievable! I can't believe we didn't take pictures! The café Viennoise and the chocolate truffle cake were practically transcendental. Thanks for posting such a cool blog!

p.s. - Rosemary, I was afraid to fly too, but the reward of being in Paris is so much stronger than the fear. Just go!
