Its on through Sunday till 6pm. Do you suffer from bibliomania? Though it’s not obligatory. Bibliomania can be a symptom of obsessive–compulsive disorder which involves the collecting or even hoarding of books to the point where social relations or health are damaged. Who doesn’t like to rummage through old books and paper ephemera? There used to be a great flea market in New York for paper ephemera at 26th street.
Stuff was at ridiculous prices too. But Antique Road Show changed that forever.
I loved this big printed sketchbook of 1900’s illustrator, Sem. He did the menus at Maxim’s and they still use his artwork.
Fortunately in most cases, though this traveling watercolor set looks awfully pretty, its likely no longer useful. Maybe they never were. But what a charming box.
Speaking of traveling…has anyone been to Annecy(Venice of France)? I I’m going next weekend. I’ve decided I must see more of France on the weekends. All suggestions and for nearby Geneva, Chambery etc. are welcome. I know zip about the Alpes.
There are always plenty of travel books at these events, novels and otherwise. I managed to escape without buying anything somehow or other.
You have strong will power! The dip pen and nibs got me. And I got lightheaded just thinking about the now long-gone paper ephemera sales in NYC.
ReplyDeleteHa ha…light-headed
ReplyDeleteThey were wonderful and stuff was under a dollar. I still have some great finds I brought with me to Paris!
What a joy to have a bird’s eye view of Biblio Mania. I can just see you on one of your jaunts whipping out a modern version of the traveling water color box. I am sure you have one.
ReplyDeleteCan’t wait to vicariously explore more of France.
Beaucoup de bons voyages.π§³
Is there a museum in Paris that has things like that artist’s paintbox? Be sure to give them some of YOUR art supplies for eventual display!
ReplyDeleteI showed you Gustave Moreau’s paint set…and others from time to time
ReplyDeleteBit there is no single museum like that. If someone was smart they would make Turner paintbox facsimiles… Winsor Newton used to have that kind of thing at their factory. I bought an old German box of cakes =useless! Hard as rocks.
I don't know how you managed to avoid buying something! How much were those Jules Verne originals? Sigh.
ReplyDeleteDelightful - I love everything paper & decorative.
ReplyDeleteET blinking is my favorite Paris memory. I have twinkling solar lights here to cheer me.
ReplyDeleteBiblio Mania…yes, I love this stuff! So many temptations at that Salon. Paris temptations are endless! Enjoy your jaunt to Annecy, Carol.
ReplyDeleteI’ve been to Annecy. It is a charming town. The market is excellent if you are there on the right day. Take the boat ride around the lake. It is a treat.
ReplyDeleteI love this and want everything so tempting
ReplyDeleteI Have never been to Annecy but worked with a woman who was born and raised there…she never let up on trying to get me to go there. It sounds beautiful…good for you for going exploring!
ReplyDeleteI would def spend a lot of time at bibliomania because I am a sucker for printed stuff.
ReplyDeleteThe chateau at the top of the hill is worth a visit. The old part of Annecy is especially charming and there is an old prison in the middle of a canal with water on each side. Places to photograph or paint abound there.
ReplyDeleteIf you haven’t already explored the Alsace, I strongly recommend it to you. There is a well worn trail from Mulhouse to Colmar to Strasbourg that takes you beside the mighty Rhine and up into the Vosges Mountains, with beautiful vineyards and too many charming villages to mention.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda…I’m planning to paint this trip
ReplyDeleteAnd to search out the best tartiflette!
I look forward to hearing about your trip to Annecy! I want to go there too!!
ReplyDeleteIf you haven't already be sure to go to Chamonix and go up Mont Blanc and across the glaciers to Mont Helbrunor (sp) in Italy. Definitely an awesome experience !
ReplyDeleteOh, I love old books!! π
ReplyDeleteI would be in such trouble here. I wouldn't be able to stop!
ReplyDeleteRe your trip to Annecy… a cruise on the lake is lovely but… if you have the time to visit Chamonix, take the cable car to L’Aiguille du Midi. This is an amazing experience with incredible views of Mont Blanc from the top on a fine day. One of the highlights of our trip to France many years ago…
ReplyDeleteHelen it sounds great bit…I am afraid of heights π¬π΅π«
ReplyDeleteCan Mont Blanc come to me? Yes!
As a dessert of chestnut purΓ©e peut-etre?
You might enjoy reading about a recent trip that folks I know made to Annecy. https://erickmgriffin.net/blog/annecy-the-city-of-canals/ I look forward to reading about your trips.
