Sunday in the Park with the Luxembourg Chair

Alison of Glasgow asked,
“Could you please do more maps with Luxembourg garden chairs besides Paris Parcs map? Tried to take one home last visit but they are too heavy for the plane”. I could have told her to take the Eurostar instead but thought better of it.

Next day as I went to buy more letter paper..voila. The Fermob shop was next door and Alison’s chair was in the window. My life is one karmic destiny after another.

I went inside. They could not have been nicer. Stores the world over are selling Luxembourg garden chairs fortunately.
Unfortunately they cost a pretty penny. But you’ll find mini versions in most Paris museum gift shops. Originally created by the Ateliers de la Ville in 1923. In 2000 the bidding was opened to update the chair. Fermob won and worked with designer Frederic Sophia to create a more ergonomic garden chair. The aluminum chair now comes in 24 colors and anyone can own it. So its no longer an exclusive with Paris parcs.
This year Fermob added the divine color pale vert opaline, a seafoamy green to their repertoire.
Just next door is a tiny Japanese tea shop. The walls are ‘vert opaline’.
Their celadon ware would go well with the Luxembourg chair
A florist down the street had perfectly matching pale green thistles.
This is the week of vert opaline. Pierre Hermé, master pâtissier has olive oil/vanille macaron to go with your chair Alison.
Galeries Lafayette Gourmand had windows of Apéro accessories and pinky Rosé, plus one pale green bag as a color compliment.
The new  commemorative Napoléon stamp just out, is loaded with a variety of muted pale greens.
Since quite a few now own the Napoléon letter, if you want to mention his name over here, please remember there is an accented É. I’ve been an idiot asking for Na-POL-lee-on books and getting strange looks. Thanks to chocolatier Vlady, it should be: Nap-po-LAY-on or Nap-POL-Lay-on or... Easier to refer to him as ‘Bone-a-par.
Thanks to Glaswegian Alison I painted a bunch of the chairs. Not a piece of cake 🍰 An interesting challenge none the less.
Do you dream of visiting jardin du Luxembourg again soon?🐝 💋 🐻 ☺️

  5. How could one not love VERT OPALINE?! Lovely in all of it’s iterations! I’m an active member of the Fermob fan club. Having their chairs at home would be a constant reminder of Jardin du Luxembourg. The next-best-thing would be having your watercolor of the chair hanging on our walls...they are GORGEOUS! ❤️

  9. Always love seeing and reading your posts...Many years ago, early 90s, I ordered FERMOB pieces to sell in my upscale garden center. Sold out immediately and I still have my pieces on the front porch. ALSO, amazed to see the exact glorious new color is very same color green I just painted my front doors in April!!
Who knew I was so "on trend"

greatly enjoyed Sunday in the Park….Celadon is a favorite color of mine. I think the unusual thistle is not a thistle at all but Eryngium giganteum. It’s common name is Miss Wilmott’s Ghost - if you can believe it! Florists love to use it as a fanciful dried flower. If you have time, google either name - there’s plenty of info online.

  12. Of course I can't wait to return to Luxembourg Gardens and Parc Monceau. I have always loved those green chairs and would have them on my patio if I had beaucoup bucks. Green is my favorite color and almost any shade is OK with me.
    Je adore that Nappy stamp.

  13. Mme Empress... Ah ha!
    Tis too.

The short-lived herbaceous perennial thistle is native to the Caucasus and Iran in Western Asia.

Love this! The green thistles are Euphorbia (U-forb-ia!) Beautiful soft celadon and they also come in an interesting blue shade!
Love, love, love the celadon with the pale pink! Maybe Chanel will have those two colors in their collection, soon !

    Carol,
I want you to know how your passion has left a lovely mark on my day. A virtual outing in Paris from my seated view from my San Diego condo with June gloom looking like it might rain. Naaaa it won't rain.
You inspire so many pleasantries of my life, be it the garden, painting, food, and drink, fashion, travel. And cooking,, I have enjoyed 2 Zoom cooking classes from Molly in Versailles, love her lemon tart class. So did my husband and neighbors who got to sample. You, Carol, are how I was introduced to Molly, so thanks again, and keep it coming. All of you is delightful. Smiles.

I have to admit that to me, the current style of the Fermob Luxembourg lounge chair is not comfortable, and the opaline vert color looks washed out. My favorite Fermob Luxembourg lounge chair is the original style in Cedar Green, the original color on the Fermob color chart. (We have enjoyed owning one of that style and color, which had a very reasonable purchase price about a decade ago.) Fortunately, Fermob still offers that color. Unfortunately, it does not offer the original style any longer, but I imagine it is available on the resale market.
