Citron Tarte Doodles

 

Last Saturday I ran out to buy envelopes💌…

Somehow I ended up inside Carl Marletti’s excellent patisserie. There are ropes outside to control unruly crowds. So far no security guards or bouncers. Notice the Napoleonic tricorne hat dividers on the counter top! 
Of course I got his prize-winning tarte au citron meringuée. Was there a choice? Painting these tartes is like eating it again vicariously.

While researching Luxembourg garden chairs (I added new chair watercolors in my shop) I peeked into the newish Angelina cafe near the museum. 

They create special concept pastries to co-ordinate with the exhibits. 

Natch I fell for the lemon triangle. 

I shared the excessive sablé/shortbread crust with Saint Sulpice pigeons while sitting on a bench. The pigeons were happy as clams and would never neglect pie crust like some people😳

On Sunday the marzipan pink pigs acted as a swift deterrent from entering Gerard Mulot and indulging👏👏🤸🏾‍♀️ Maybe I need to carry a pig 🐖 with me at all times as a gentle reminder?

On Monday’s stamp run I only browsed and did not fall victim🤸🏾‍♀️🤸🏾‍♀️🤸🏾‍♀️

Its not easy in this town. You’re accosted with constant temptation 😳 like the fraise de bois ice cream sundae from Berthillon seen on instagram.

I am thinking a tarte citron map 🗺 may be my next venture. Oui o non/yes or no PBers? 

Hmm…this Frenchie is not such a frequenter of patisseries me thinks…

  2. I simply love the citron Tarte meringuée. I simply adore Paris pigeons, Angelina pastry shop, and the lively pink pigs made of marzipan. I wish will be there having a sundae at Bertillon. Have a great weekend Carol and thanks for sharing the beauty of Paris and the yummy places to enjoy.

  3. I imagine it is so easy to get side tracked in Paris! One has a destination and before you know it there is no escaping the lure of tarts and sundaes. I 👏 for a citron map.

    Who knew?
    After chocolate mousse, le fondant au chocolat et le tiramisu.
    Hmmm…tiramisu? That’s Italian non?

  9. I share your passion for tarte citron, Carol. How can they be the 4th favorite dessert of les Francais?! That is beyond comprehension…but, it does leave more tartes citron for you and me…win/win! I’m looking forward to your map for all the best locations for the best tartes citron in Paris. 🍋❤️

  10. To answer a question you asked: I don't have any French expressions on my refrigerator because in my new home the door is hard to see. But: you are reminding me, since I'm in a new phase of studying French, I will hang some expressions up around the house. Bathroom mirror, in front of me at my work table., kitchen counters.
    Lots of surgar in this post! Still something I don't eat, still something I admire, oooh, so pretty, and love your paintings of them.
