Sunday on Bus 69 with Bear

Sunday afternoon we went looking for August Paris letter ideas. The best idea was taking bus 69 from the 7th arrondissement. What a grand tour of PARIS MONUMENTS! 1st we passed Les Invalides.

Next the Louvre. Wish the bus windows were not so greenish..

And so-expansive former train station, the Orsay. If we'd gotten on the 69 earlier there'd be an Eiffel Tower monument to show you.

Look! Grand Palais off in the vista. We got off the bus at Hotel de Ville. Is that considered a Paris Monument?

Certainly Paris cafes count...sort of. They were bustling Sunday.

A brocant was stretched across
Pont Louis Philippe bridge. Social distancing and masks was obligatory.

Bear noticed his current obsession, 'clouds' were reflected in the silver spoons!
Bear browsed a few shops on the Ile like
Nina Kendosa. And  It was sunny and warm.
Everyone was eating Berthillon ice cream cones. What's your favorite flavor?

Bear is a purist and goes for so-called plain vanille. Which in Paris is not so plain. It can be Madagascan or Tahitian or Mexique with real vanilla bean specks. No vanilla extract thank you very much. Plus Berthillon won best vanille in La Figaro's Contest and is a worthy Paris monument. Forget the other 56 flavors svp. What's your favorite Paris monument? You're wondering who is BEAR 🐻? For more BEAR STORIES. Umm, we made a mistake last post with the 'name the song' contest. We'll do another free letter offer shortly je te promis. Please share Parisbreakfasts with a friend. Stay well and stay cool dear PBers ❤️🐻

  1. Thank you for taking us along for Bear’s tour on Bus 69. If my destination in Paris is not walkable, I take the bus. There is so much to see...so many monuments but also everyday life.. Merci, Bear.

Choosing a flavor at Berthillon is always SO difficult! I try to select something different each time. Your advice on the quality of vanilla-flavored-anything in Paris is spot on!

The 7th is a Great area to stay in. Better than the 6th or the Marais IMHO

  5. Bus rides in Paris are the best! I hope I get to come to Paris again in my lifetime. 2021? Love the clouds in the last photo---I also love browsing in Nina Kendosa although I've never bought anything there. She has such a lovely style---casual yet put-together. À bientôt!

Meg and I took the number 69 to see the monuments, et al.

But... We were only on it for about 15 minutes, when the driver pulled over
and ordered everyone off the bus, telling us to catch the next one. The next one never showed up, so we walked to the Eiffel Tower, and thus began our wonderful walk over to the right bank, and finally, home to our apartment.
No doubt about a 4 mile walk.
    Thanks for this nostalgic post.
When will we get back to Paris?
We'll just have to enjoy it through your eyes, Carol.

    1. Paris bus drivers are exceptionally kind and human but they can do that. Suddenly its "Terminal next stop" and they do it frequently. Cest la vie

have boarded bus 69 at the beginning (West end) and did the whole round trip. Had to get off and get on new bus at the East end of Paris. I think we were by the Bastile. My bet is you will come up with a brilliant idea for August. Or let Bear run with it

  9. Your title for this post sounds like a movie title - very catchy. I always get two scoops & will have citron vert & caramel SVP. Hard to pick a favorite monument but I think the Arch de Triompe would be my choice. Love Nina Kendosa & have bought something there on my last two trips. They had the cutest necklaces I also bought as gifts.

The mascarons are the stone masks, 381 in number, each being different and which decorate the sides of the bridge. They represent the heads of forest and field divinities from ancient mythology, as well as satyrs and sylvains. They are copies of the originals attributed to the French Renaissance sculptor Germain Pilon (1525–1590), who also sculpted the tomb of King Henry II of France and Queen Catherine de'Medici in the Basilica of St Denis, five kilometers north of Paris. The mascarons remained in place until 1851–1854, when the bridge was completely rebuilt. At that time six of the original mascarons from the 16th century were placed in the Musée Carnavalet, along with eight molds of other originals. Eight other originals were first placed in the Musée de Cluny – Musée national du Moyen Âge, and are now in the French National Museum of the Renaissance in the Château d'Écouen. During their reconstruction, the Renaissance masks were replaced with copies made by noted 19th-century sculptors, including Hippolyte Maindron, Hubert Lavigne, Antoine-Louis Barye and Fontenelle. Fontenelle made 61 masks, which are found on the upstream side of the bridge between the right bank and the Île de la Cité.[10]

I dearly love Pozetta's Pistache. I dont think I've ever tasted another flavor. I am devoted to Pistache and Pozetta is the best ice cream in Paris IMHO.
