Last Friday I went over to the Grand Palais. More pictures on my Instagram. Please follow..ahem
The preview for a big Rodin centenary was opening. And Saut Hermes 2017 in the nave.
So far I have not been able to get a press pass inside the equestrian jump show. Maybe next year.
Still its great fun to watch gorgeous horses parading in and out of the back door.
Love the look this horse gave me.
Grand Palais is in general a horsey place, trés a pro po.
There are tons of Saut Hermes videos on Youtube if you want a look inside at the jumping.
Those tails are fabulous no?
The riders are not bad looking either. If only I could whistle...
Les Paris flic passed by on horseback and gave me a half-smile when I took their picture too.
If you missed the annual March Saut Hermes you can still catch plenty of horse gear at the big Hermes Sevres-Babylon store.
A horse of a different color?
Is this really an alligator child's pull-toy? Qui sait.
Hermes' latest perfume is called of course 'Galop'. Only 1 L svp.
Horse gear print silk scarves are forever. I have one tucked away somewhere from eons ago...
The space was formerly a swimming pool so quite spacious for Paris
Those perfect Hermes orange cravatte boxes. Yum yum.
Speaking of Hermes orange, Bear and I are off to Dijon tomorrow, home of pain d'epice, also a lovely shade of orange. We're taking a drawing stage (course) dans le rue and inside the museum. Do you have any Dijon tips? Do tell svp. If you enjoyed this post and want to support it, buy Paris letters, maps and watercolors or forward to a friend. Cheers!
Oh, Carol! I am wildly jealous! First Mont St Michel (your photos brought it back tout suite) and then Saut Hermes at the Grand Palais. Looking forward to the next letters/maps - is Hermes ribbon in them?! Happy travels.
ReplyDeleteI wish...I got only a small scrap of ribbon at the store.
DeleteYou deserve it!
DeleteLove that first aqua:)
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOSH...I was still dreaming about Mont Saint Michel and then this I have been rendered speechless your equestrian watercolors are wonderful-all the special and unique places you take us....I am so glad I get to tag along! HAPPY LEARNING in Dijon!!
ReplyDeleteI am crazy about your horse watercolors. They are WONDERFUL!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy Dijon and I hope the course is good too. I agree, I these horse paintings are lovely.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is a professional horse trainer in Germany. She would love this!
ReplyDeleteNicely done….love the horses in centre ville Paris.
ReplyDeleteThe French Guard militaire is down the street from me...love when they come parading by. The cars do not.
DeleteThank you. Your posts enlarge my world. What is it about Dijon mustard? So distinctive and identifiable...and independent of the branding?
ReplyDeleteFrench soil/terroire is better..
DeleteYou know I love all of your drawings. However, with these drawings of the horses you have raised your own bar. You have caught the motion of their bodies. They are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI raised the bar? The jumping bar! I like yr puns Marilyn ;))
DeleteUn Dijon try to find the small owl (chouette) carved on the side of a church. I don’t remember which church but it is in the downtown area. All Dijonais will know. You put your hand on it to make a wish. It is completely polished and faded by centuries of use.
ReplyDeleteDijon is a beautiful city. I studied there like 40 years ago….
I've seen lots of owls, brass ones and furry toys.
DeleteI'll look for the church.
Thank you Chantal
Your horse watercolors are magnificent - just like the animals themselves. Loved everything about this post & so enjoy your sense of humor when it peeps through. I think I must walk through that Hermes shop & soak in a little of the beauty.
ReplyDeleteAm smitten with the horse of a different color. The glorious tails remind me that I once bought some nail creme whose main claim to fame was that it strengthened the nails of horse groomers who put the cream on the horses...hooves or tails?
ReplyDeleteIt does look lime a big shaggy dog.
DeleteGroomer's nail cream! Your discoveries could fill a book Jeanette.
Okay, of the images, we vote for your work and the pull toy. :-)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous post! And your Instagram is magnificent! Thank you so much.
ReplyDeleteIn Dijon les PUITS DE MOISE is an art historical must see. It's well out of town (but we walked there in the days when we were young). It's at the Chartreuse de Champmole, a 14th century hospital. There is also fabulous sculpture associated with the church at the Chartreuse.
ReplyDeleteThank you Deb!! I'll try to get there. And thanks for the video links:

You have advanced taste Nilon! I'll stick with the real think thanks...
DeleteLove this!
ReplyDeleteWonderful post!! I adopted a rescue horse last year so I love everything "horse"!!.... Fabulous watercolors Carol!!
