First stop at patisserie Secco
To say 'Merci mille fois' to the mere of my baby buchette
Outside the sun is shining brightly on New Year's day.
But don't think for a second you can leave the house without a brolly.
Mot of the day - parapluie (umbrella or for rain). Absolutely essential at all times in Paris!
1st day of the month run get your carte navigo filled for 65,10€ (save about 15€). You can take 50 trips in one day on the buses and the metro = no limit.
What to wear in Metro?
Co-ordinate with the vending machines.
Dog of the day seen on the Metro to Saint Sulpice.
Walking round in the rain the streets are empty of sane people on New Year's day. You'll have it to yourself and spot things like this beautiful carousel in front of eglise Saint Sulpice.
Today I'm off to catch an exhibit of the architect who designed many Paris libraries at Cite de l'Architecture. 
And try to find this Metro mug spotted in a closed shop window last night.

I am loving your new daily activity blogs. So fun. I've been tuning in to PB for a long time now. I never think to comment. I just enjoy I suspect there are many more like me. ReplyDeleteI found a mug like that at La Vaisellerie on rue de Rennes. Five euros! Also got some of those miniature lions head soup bowls that they use for serving sauces in restaurants for one euro. Haven't served a sauce that needed a little bowl since we've been home but they make me happy every time I open the kitchen cabinet. Use the mug every day though.

ReplyDeleteYour post today made me smile. I remember the very first French class I had and I fell in LOVE with the word parapluie. Such a musical word and much more fun to walk in the rain under a parapluie than a plain old umbrella. My favorite parapluie has little frogs all over it and is really meant for children...not for 66-year old women...but I don't care. I love it and I use it.
Wish it were raining here today so I could go walking outside with my parapluie.
Uh, didn't I tell you I love using the word parapluie?

It's funny how a city especially Paris, in the rain & all lit up looks so much nicer than the rain pouring down & dripping from the trees in the country. Hope you always have your parapluie tucked in your bag at the ready.

ReplyDeleteNo matter the weather, I am really enjoying the opportunity you give us to see a new year unfold in Paris. (I've also made a note about obtaining a carte navigo at the beginning of a month...seems somehow more elegant an experience than my recharging my NYC MetroCard today.

Reading about coconut shards made me think straight away of custard slices with white icing on the top. Only trouble is l can't think of anything else and its 9 on a Saturday night so not much help for me. The custard slice is just in front of my eyes. Will have to go and eat a mince pie.Only thing l have.
