About a week ago I went to see FELA and they insist the audience get up and dance, which is alot like being back in Brazil again...Even Francois Simon of Le Figaro is talking about Brazilian food this weekend, so maybe the stars are aligning and trying to tell me something?
The food in Brazil is unbelievable! The fruitas! OMG
You can get avocado milkshakes on most street corners in Rio, while hanging out in your bikini...
And the meat! I don't eat much meat anymore, but in Brazil, I would eat it everyday...
You put a kind of salsa on the meat called Brazilian vinegrette...miam-miam

This tiny vintage' bikini which hasn't a snowballs chance of fitting me anymore. BUMBUM IPANEMA is still in business though...
Can we arrange an exchange BUMBUM? I don't think I ever had the nerve to wear this anywhere. Not even the crazy beautiful beaches of Brazil...
I do think I could fit into Gisele's flip flops though...

ReplyDeleteJust saw the movie this past weekend and yes, Javier Bardem was perfect *though I really wanted to give him a bath, nice thought* and while I'm not Brazilian, I grew up listening to my folks play Joao Gilberto and doing the samba...And I'd walk the beach in a cute coverup just so I could have one of those avocado milkshakes!

Your blog post today made me smile—which they usually do. Speaking of avocados, on my last visit to Hawaii, I had a delicious slice of avocado pie at a local restaurant on the island of Kauai. Much to my delight, the April 2010 issue of Food Network’s magazine included a recipe. I made it and it is truly heaven!

Avocado Pie
For the Crust:
• 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
• 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
• 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
• Pinch of salt
For the Filling:
• 2 medium hass avocados
• 1 8-ounce package cream cheese, at room temperature
• 1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
• 2 1/2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
• 1 1/2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
• Pinch of salt
• Whipped cream or confectioners' sugar, for garnish (optional)
Make the crust: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Brush an 8-inch springform pan with some of the melted butter. Mix the remaining butter with the graham cracker crumbs, sugar and salt in a bowl. Press the mixture into the bottom and up the sides of the prepared pan. Bake until golden brown, about 15 minutes. Cool completely on a rack.
Make the filling: Halve and pit the avocados, then scoop out the flesh and chop. Transfer to a bowl, add the cream cheese and beat with a mixer on medium speed until smooth. Add the condensed milk, lime and lemon juices, and the salt and beat until fluffy, scraping the bowl as needed.
Pour the filling into the crust, press a piece of plastic wrap directly on the surface and chill at least 4 hours.
Remove the springform ring and slice the pie. Garnish with whipped cream or confectioners' sugar, if desired, and serve immediately (the top will start to brown as the pie sits).

Whoops! Yes, I saw Eat, Pray, Love with a girlfriend and loved it. We decided that "Eat" and "Love" were fabulous, though "Pray" was a bit tedious...perhaps I just haven't reached that part of my life's journey yet. Anyway, Javier Bardem certainly stole the show! Oh, and I loved your Brazilian themed post!

The fruits are from heaven, the beaches are paradise, and the bikinis... Well, You can't go without them! So better wear them! I love the bikinis, the hot hot sun, and the beautiful men on the beaches.

I found it funny when you say "Saudade" (so-dag-ji) with a heavy accent from the Southeast/South regions of Brazil. Saudade is in fact "so-dag-dee" if you want to say it correctly. The same goes to Vodka, when Brazilians coming from the South would say "Vodjika" - Wonderful post!

I had NO idea you have been to Brasil and visited sooo many different places there-- I feel like I'm part Brasilian-- meu corasao - because I grew up listening to Brasilian music and have been very close to the Brasiian community in San Diego for many years and for dancing EVERY Sunday night at Cafe Sevilla in San Diego- on Brasilian night for YEARS!!!!
I feel this Saudade for those times--- my Brasilian times/friends...
I've also been to Rio - back in 1987... Love the country and it's BEAUTIFUL people... and the food and music OF COURSE!
