I've painted many Parisbreakfast reader's darling dogs: Jack, Wally, Azela, Harvard, Bella, Bessa, Winston, Broady, Lilly, Lulu.This weekend Jack's mom asked me what kind of a dog I had.
I had a Belgian Sheepdog named Rudi for many wonderful years.(This was not shot on the Riviera or Provence)
He was 13 years old when I lost him.(Sardi Klein took this headshot of Rudi at 3 years old)
He had a Phd. 
He spoke French fluently.
Va chercher, donne la patte, viens vite (come here, give me your paw, come quick) etc.
Rudi had sofa rights.
My neighbor said he should have been named 'Politie'. His manners were so refined.
I wish I could have a dog where I live now.
This sweet cushion is the closest I'll get.

ReplyDeletePASHA our dog is a big sheepdog too :a "Serra da Estrela" (Estrela Mountain Dog), a portuguese dog (but not the same Obama's family dog)
He's 8 now and he's "senior life" begins...

I love your blog. Next time you come to Paris I would love to meet you. A friend of mine has a few hotels and would like to meet you as well, I'm an artist too. They might be able to exhibit your paintings and I know of a restaurant that would plus a cafe historic.

ReplyDeleteI know it is hard to love and let go. But maybe you would do well with another dog? Just think you could take him to Paris, your own adorable model. Pink and green bow!

ReplyDeleteWe just lost our 14-year-old Siberian Husky, Annie, 2 weeks ago. She was a sweet, beautiful girl.
ReplyDeleteI might have thought, previous to losing her, that it would be hard to hear about friends' dogs' antics, or to see them. But it turns out the connection I felt with Annie channels through other pups, too, so that I feel closer to her.

ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely tribute. I love that close up picture or you and Rudi together. I grew up with a cocker spaniel named Mops. She was with us for 16 years. I was grown and married by the time she died. Mom had a small silver gray toy poodle named Chiffon. Both very much family. I didnt get another dog till we moved here to Oregon. Annie, our red and white Border collie, is now Five years old. Time flys to fast, they should love much longer. Love your paintings & postings of dogs.

NYC seems downright hostile to me in terms of dogs - too bad - or maybe it has improved since I spent time there?

ReplyDeleteMy Tyger, who lived in Paris and learned some French (with a Cameroon accent), is now 17 years old and loves the painting of Le Cafe St. Andre (though he did not visit it in person; he was pretty much a chat de l'appartement).

I love Rudi’s breed.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who trains them for search and rescue. They are amazing. I’m a big fan of German Shepards, too. Our last beloved dog, Cholla, died two and a half years ago (at 16 yrs) and it seems like yesterday. He was a mix of what we thought was a Chow/Golden Retriever.

Numpy usually slept in our barn,
