I don't know why it is, but I always see a lot of red in Paris...
Maybe because red pops against all the grey and neutrals in the streets
On the plane I read how Nora Effron said her mother told her never to wear a red coat because she would be remembered as the person with that red coat. Naturally she went out and got one immediately. so I saw red coats everywhere in Paris...
I was seeing red because it was raining heavily...it usually just drizzles in Paris?
Parisien bistros are usually red - for the steak a point/rawish? Qui sait?
Love this sign and I have no idea what it stands for?
parking day & night? Do you know?

Galleries Lafayette definitely has the best posters in Paris...
I'm a big fan of red! I should look for red windows....
ReplyDeleteMao pictures = 60th anniversary of the PRC.
ReplyDeleteI love red too, almost as much as purple (still a lot of that this year.)
I love red accents! You so reminded me of that!
ReplyDeleteDon't park near that sign...EVER!
ReplyDeleteChas
It means no parking - day or night - generally on garage doors
ReplyDeleteBonjour Carol! "Jour and Nuit" with a red line through it means no parking (or loitering) day or night.
ReplyDeleteHave fun!
Jean
You should go to the Red exhibit at la musée des arts décoratifs (part of the Louvre). It's been running for over a year and it really showcases the power and symbolism of the color!

Love this post. I had a red raincoat that I loved and wore until it was a rag. A real schmatte as the New Yorkers would say. Now all I wear is black. I hate to stand out—age does that to you!
ReplyDeleteThe sign means no parking day or night. Usually in front of those huge gates that leads to an inner courtyard that you need the code to get into.
My little bistro is red.
Sophia
I'm wearing red today!
ReplyDeleteSitting here in my red robe, I enjoyed the red post :-)
ReplyDeleteThe sign says : never ever park here !!! I love red, and I have a red coat and shoes and handbag and umbrella and even a lipstick which I never use but I loved its hue. Have a nice stay in Paris.
ReplyDeleteWho WOULDN'T want to be the woman in the red coat? Some mothers are so odd...
ReplyDeleteThe French must be celebrating the Chinese communist birthday too.!
ReplyDeletered is my fav color in the box...

ReplyDeleteI continue to love your Paris blog ... especially all the tips and photos, and of course the watercolors!
ReplyDeleteWendy
Great shots, Carol, the reds contrasting with the grey of the rain.
ReplyDeleteI hope that you are having fun!
(I love that poster, too.)
My company is a non profit in Houston, TX and we have a red smart car with our logo on it!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI can see that you have got a number of answers on the no parking sign, so I can leave it!
ReplyDeleteThe red colour as you have caught it on these photos is really nice, but I hope that the weather and other possibly disturbing matters will soon allow you not to "see red", but to find all the other colours of Paris! :-)
Love the post today! In response to your question,
ReplyDeleteI believe "jour et nuit" with a line through it stands for. "le parking est interdit le jour et la nuit."
Hope you enjoy Paris, rain or not!
Ilana
Love this! One of my fondest memories of Paris is taking a 5 hour walk around the city on New Year's Day in my full length RED coat!!!
ReplyDeleteViva la rouge!
maria
“Jour et Nuit” means no parking day or night.
ReplyDeleteAnd a few weeks ago, when I was in Paris, I actually saw someone getting a parking ticket. Mon dieu!
Hal
The circle with the diagonal line through it is a universal "NO"...one assumes "no parking day or night". I missed one of these in Turkey (the circle with the diagonal, no words) and my rental car was towed!

Love that final image with the shoe. Classic! Her shoes do NOT look comfy! Have a wonderful trip, Carol! See it all for me! xo

Love today's post...et rouge...(?). BTW: Apartment Therapy blog had a "red" post today...
ReplyDeleteOh my god. I just stumbled across your blog while searching for pictures of a Montblanc and I have literally fallen in love with it in under thirty seconds. I am going to mention you in my next post and link you on my blog immediately. Your art is so gorgeous and captures everything I love about my favorite place in the world. I am stunned!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I'll definitely be back (in case you couldn't tell)!!!
So happy to know you are seeing red!
ReplyDeleteBonjour from a big fan!
ReplyDeleteThe parking sign means: no parking night or day. The red (like ghostbusters) slash is the no (interdit) part. It just doesn't stand out so well with the blue.
Thank you for your wonderful PB posts. Je les adore!
Loni
I saw that Galeries Lafayette ad last week - brilliant. Hope you are having a fab time, I did.
ReplyDeleteAaahhhh, Paris rouge. I have a post on just that tomorrow myself. I love your take on it as always!!

The 1st picture, Eniko Mikhalik on Numero is so fantastic! I want it! And yes, I love the colour red :)
