Cup from Vaux le Vicomte,I was inspired to paint this cartouche by the cup I bought 
Chateau Vaux le Vicomte during the chocolate event.
And now I'm kicking myself that I didn't buy this sweet cup at Versailles :( Why do you have to return home, before you wake up to certain missed oportunities?
The coulda, shoulda, wouldas of travel are often not evident till you hit terra firma, chez nous.
This Marie-Antoinette set was way out of my budget to say the least.
But this elegant mug from Chateau Chantilly would have done ever so nicely without breaking the bank.
Same goes for this cup and saucer from the Musee de la Toile de Jouy 
I'm falling for the idea of mismatched cups and china hard.
Love the idea of mix and match cups from palaces one has stopped in...

ReplyDeleteI don't know what it is about cups, but they intrigue me too. It would be fun to have a huge butler's pantry, walk in huge, to go into and pull anyone of these out of each morning.
ReplyDeleteI would have no qualms about using them for paint either, I am afraid. Porcelain is just made to be used, n'est-ce pas?

ReplyDeleteI bought the Marie Antoinette cup (gulp) -- it's in my china cabinet with my grandmother's Limoges chocolate cups (pink roses, lots of gilt). They are exquisite. I spotted them in my grandmother's breakfront when I was about 12 (I was the only one in the family who knew what they were) and went on a 20 year campaign to get them. But for some reason grandma split the set between my mother and one of her sisters, neither of whom had any particular attachment to them that I could tell. Eventually I talked my mother out of hers, and years later talked my Aunt Toula out of hers.
Paul's cups have a very pleasing shape. You could always nab one next time. I am ashamed to admit I did that years ago with one of those green wine pitchers.
Beautiful, Carol! I love the filigree surrounding this prize. I love mismatched cups, too--they're charming. So many beauties to choose from...ah, what a problem to have!

Your painting is beautiful and if we were not on a strict budget this holiday I would be getting more than a couple of paintings of yours versus the portable air compressor and work boots I need to get for our van and work at home. I ache for the cups your had to choose from.

ReplyDeleteFirst your painting is beautiful, next I always had and have mixed matched cups and plates... there are too many beautiful cups and dishes in the world to have to look at the same ones over and over. Years ago I started buying only four of every dish that I could afford it and second of all since I was always attracted to the same color pallet they all worked together and ever dinner was like eating at a new place...Cheers, Diane

ReplyDeleteI also really hate it when either I have left something behind or I've neglected to buy something. Especially because even if you do go back you never know if it's going to be there.
ReplyDeleteLike the time I lost my gorgeous boots in Rome. I got them back but it took a lot of money and effort and scheming to do it. But before I had them in my hands again, sigh, it was tough. The best souveniers!
