I was walking home from the Marais.
I’m usually under the covers, when others got the news.
I walked past Au Petite Versailles du Marais boulangerie.
Who can resist? Besides nothing else was open. And it is one of the prettiest boulangeries in Paris.
Yes I got this tarte au pomme for later. It came in handy!
Let me tell you I didn’t see any dancing in the streets in Paris. Nor hear any church bells ringing.
They are ringing now but its Sunday. No cars were honking in the streets like New Year’s Eve. Everyone in Paris was in Lockdown. Or flown the coop to the country. The virus has been surging in France, though France24 says this past week some numbers have come down 👏👏
Let’s pray the divisiveness of the election and past 4 years can heal. That Americans can lift a glass 🥂and Live together as Sade saysXXX❤️🐻💋
I went out for my 1 hr walk to see the new oyster bar on the Ile, Poget & De Witt.
They are producteurs from Marennes-Oléron. Every oyster in-store they raised lovingly themselves.
Add to your list if you’re a seafood lover.
Flower shops are open.
Food shops remain open during lockdown with regular hours.
The stands are full of Spanish mandarines, classic sign of winter in Paris.
Some restaurants are open for ‘click and collect’. Art stores, are ‘click and collect’ I found out the hard way yesterday...
Get on line for boulangeries. 
For distraction I’m drawing cats😺
I did a little doodle (in bed not on the bus).
Then Emily in Paris came along...then a re-think.
Gabrielle Chanel’s life was much more intriguing. Many complain about their parents. But think about the alternative.
Orphaned at 12, Gabrielle was abandoned forever by her father in a convent for 6 years.
There she learned to sew and embroider. The rest is history.
It’s said maybe her signature double C’s were inspired by l’Abbaye d’Aubazine’s stained glass windows.

After Emily In Paris, I need to make more effort with my French. I’m liking ‘Easy French’ on youtube. A refreshing approach - French people in the street are interviewed on one subject, “What do you eat for breakfast?” Plus you get subtitles in French/English. Repetitive watching is key. After my very satisfying and filling Brunch, I ran over to the Pompidou.
First day of the new huge Matisse retrospective. About 1/3 through I was ready to quit and collapse. So many masterpieces, many never seen before. I’ll do a post next week.
I kept thinking how can I make Chanel perfume bottles look Matisse-esque?
