Here in Sri Lanka I can just about make do without European basics but the sight of the caff window advertising bubble & squeak just about did it for me. B&S is last night’s mashed potato and chopped up cabbage mixed and reheated with a bit of garlic and onion, lots of salt and pepper and maybe a few bits of bacon. For an Englishman, it is comfort food at its very best.<br />Next time you go to London, visit Simpson’s in the City, tucked away just off Cornhill, and order steak & kidney pie with some bubble and some strong English mustard.
