Melun Fête son Brie 2025

Yesterday I went to the cheese festival,

MELUN FÊTE SON BRIE, an annual autumn 🍁 foodie event.
Always on the first Saturday in October
A 25 minute train ride from Gare de Lyon (the first stop on the way to Fontainebleau).
Melun is a small, pretty medieval town
Situated along the Seine.
Made up of narrow winding, back streets, mostly pedestrian
It reminds me of the small town in Ghibli’s, KIKI’S DELIVERY SERVICE on Netflix Did you see it?
The streets are lined with white tents
Full of French
Regional
Products
Grey shallots, purple garlic, yellow onions 🧅 from the
Ardeche.
Endless
Gastronomical
Delights,
Like the Brie croque monsieur on the right - so tempting,
Yet I fell for these cheesy pretzels 🥨 made with chèvre 🐐
Not even Brie! Shocking
Canelés
caught my eye 👁️
I arrived late & hungry 🤤 Never a good idea 👎
I should have saved  myself for the ‘piece de resistance’
Beautiful tangy rounds of  Brie de Melun!
I did eat a ton of samples. Ahh…the smell of it 👃
Brie de Melun is aged longer and has a more intense flavor than the more common Brie de Meaux.
You could have an all-Brie lunch for 22€.
This small boulangerie 🥖
Had such a tempting Tourte 🥧 au Brie de Melun. Sometimes I wish I was more impulsive…
A giant crow, on stilts with a Brie in his mouth was performing for kids
From the crow in Jean de la Fontaine’s Fables. The French are so witty!
Maybe next year on the 1st Saturday in October, you’ll be inspired to visit Melun Fête son Brie 😻
Your SEPTEMBER PARIS LETTERS are in La Poste 📮 enfin 🤸‍♂️

Maître Corbeau is who you saw. Well known to all French kids from a poem by La Fontaine in the 17th C. He lets go of his cheese when a fox flatters him into showing off his voice…

My goodness, love this so much! I’m wondering if the Parisian Government knows how many people you entice into travelling to Paris? There should be some sort of award for that, Non?

Thank you for the wonderful adventure to Melun, and all of your fabulous posts. I can almost smell the Brie. My wife and I will be in Paris the second weekend November this year, actually staying on Île Saint-Louis, and would like to know what's the best website for finding out what's happening in Paris. I learned of you and your blog from the book "That Spring in Paris" written by a neighbor of ours, Ciji Ware.

  8. This food all looks very tasty! Hard to choose what to eat. Thanks for telling us about the French story with the crow and the fox.
I like the movie Kiki’s delivery service too! I have a little soft teddy of the cat from the movie - Jiji - that I got on a trip to Japan.

Following your posts for years now, so delightful. I join you in wishing you'd be more impulsive; this constant avoidance of food gets tedious, although I understand all is delicious and decisions must be made. Still, the temperament wears and is no longer au courant in the U.S., thank heavens. Perhaps every now and then a slight backing off from abstention? Thank you for explaining the difference between Brie de Melun and Meaux, will come in handy next time at the counter. Such a beguiling post.

You won’t find Brie de Melun at many cheese counters, even in France. A rare breed.
