My engineers claim it's done that way for the reason you suspected: to temper the cold air from the windows. However, they are obviously not gardeners: the best place to overwinter plants is in a sunny window- but not with a heating vent there treating the plants to a nice desert wind!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26546687.post-27721074606542725082008-11-24T18:58:00.000-05:002008-11-24T18:58:00.000-05:00How I would love a cup of that rich Chocolat Chaud...How I would love a cup of that rich Chocolat Chaud and macarons right now... sighCris, Artist in Oregonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15067969984221375853noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26546687.post-74678284544695306732008-11-24T17:25:00.000-05:002008-11-24T17:25:00.000-05:00Could it be that there is a relationship between t...Could it be that there is a relationship between the rate of hot chocolate consumption and leaky apartments?Merisihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16781937797213521146noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26546687.post-26636979968618066862008-11-23T15:27:00.000-05:002008-11-23T15:27:00.000-05:00Oh we are so tough over this side of the Atlantic ...Oh we are so tough over this side of the Atlantic :)Di Overtonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00739747135963729335noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26546687.post-46613635843146987902008-11-22T21:31:00.000-05:002008-11-22T21:31:00.000-05:00I shivered as I read your post. You know--I toured a house even in South Carolina once that was an old plantation home, and they said one of the reasons they had "screens" in front of the fireplace was so women would not get too close sitting there--even if it was very cold...If they did, they would melt the WAX on their faces. Many of the women evidently had had smallpox and as a result were quite disfigured, so they put wax over their faces to make it look smoother! Your post made me remember that.

Beautiful watercolor!A Brush with Colorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07638723986208929476noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26546687.post-53827583382469421592008-11-21T10:12:00.000-05:002008-11-21T10:12:00.000-05:00Of course it's always better to have a cup of choc...Of course it's always better to have a cup of chocolate to get warmer!Anne Corronshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15776524387728266798noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26546687.post-88771584795745445092008-11-21T09:40:00.000-05:002008-11-21T09:40:00.000-05:00Great images.I love antiques.
