Millions of Masks

Tuesday was your classic drizzly, grey, overcast Paris day.
Noted all new Parisian joggers stayed in bed. I was up and out (with documents) to buy masks at nearby Monoprix.
By chance I saw in LE PARISIEN.  All French supermarché chains will be selling millions of masks starting May 4 (some begin May 11 like Carrefour). I went early on Monday but the camion/delivery truck had not yet arrived.
What a clever idea! Instead of people bombarding pharmacies for masks, we can buy them at the caisse/cash register - 50 disposable masks @ 29,90€ and/or 2 washable masks at 6,99€. Easy peasy. Sometimes the French get it right. No word on testing yet. TBA
My Tuesday haul plus a celebration 🎉 jar of apricot-passion fruit jam I've been eyeballing for months.
Many out there have accomplished great things during the lockdown.
I have fed an ever-growing bunch of pigeons at 6:30 am daily and tasted every jar of apricot jam within a 1-mile radius. Ta Da🎉
Thank you Bonnie for suggesting I put a teaspoon of apricot jam in my daily yogurt. The power of suggestion. Bonnie did not suggest I eat almost 1/2 the jar immediately.
No new chef this week, but a superb new newsletter by New Yorker writer Lauren Collins (of When In French. Did you read it?). You can subscribe HERE.
The Monop masks have that wire bit that clamps onto your nose. They may not be so comfortable to wear but much better than a CPAP or a ventilator IMHO. I'm making progress on my latest Paris map 🙏🏻. Maybe today or tomorrow they will be emailed out. Watercolors are going out immediately from my Etsy Shop. Letters will take a little longer. Please take a look. Cheers Xxx🐻❤️

  2. Love your grocery haul and the masks are a great idea. I keep washing my masks over and over and one day the more papery ones will fall apart. I like the thing around your nose--helps my glasses not get quite so fogged up!

    And you look fabulous!

If you look at the French article they have a video on washing yr mask. It says 60 degrees heat in the washing machine (which I dont have...)

  3. I have 2 face masks but haven't worn them yet as I still haven't left the house since March 12th. Love abricot jam - which is the best in your opinion? Love that map but it makes me hungry for Paris.

    1. I am not yet ready to give an apricot jam verdict Suki.
I do know that cafe Deux Magot and Angelina have superb apricot jam.
I need to do a true comparitive taste test instead of gobbling up one at a time..

  5. I have long been a fan of adding jam to my morning yogurt, but can never stop at only a teaspoon. A bit of espresso powder and cocoa powder is a good addition, too.

    1. Cocoa powder is hard to come by in Paris. Everyone is making chocolate cake!

  6. I add fresh berries, pineapple or mango to my yogurt and a little stevia and a tablespoon of hemp. Sometimes cinnamon or vanilla. You can get creative with walnuts and granola too. Can't find masks for sale anywhere around here, I made some for hubby and myself.

You look terrific, Carol. I wish we could get masks of that quality that easily here in the San Francisco Bay Area.

    1. It does seem like an ingenious plan to stock supermarkets with millions of masks. Ppl can solve some problems if they put their minds to it.

  10. I have never replied before but I love your posts. You really help me feel sane—especially as we are all taking life one day at a time. A morning spent in Paris with you is so refreshing, and grounding!

  11. Apricot jam may be MY cure. Forgot about it! Not wandering/musing in a grocery has a downside.

  12. Life can be complicated. Get the jam you want even if you make a deal to wait until you finish something else first. Plain yogurt doesn't have sugar so jam makes it better.
