Bonjour Fraises!

Au nom de la Rose Sketch, Watercolor at Etsy, 6" x 9"
~
Since I cannot yet make it out to sketch in New York's Frenchie pastry salons (with my whacked back) I thought at the very least I would bring in a few elements to help get me into fighting shape for mid-March Paris...
i.e. The rose and strawberry still life setup.
A macaron candle comes in handy at last!
I must be ready to face up to Paris' best tartes!
Strawberries have no season in Paris...
Just as roses can ALWAYS be found at Au Nom de la Rose...

French fraise sketch Where aire you look...
Les fraises abound...
Fantin-Latour certainement knew how to paint up a plate full of fraises...
Artist shop, Sennelier too is fond of the almight red berry...
But beware the gigantic Fraise-Tagada - faux strawberry-flavored in name only!
BONJOUR FRAISES!

  2. I love strawberries--and yours are a delight. Eat some for me, Carol--and if you'd like to dip a few into chocolate, too, I wouldn't complain!

  4. Even shut in, you still manage to clog my arteries with luscious pastries and delight the eye with beautiful watercolors. Oh well. What a way to go! I hope you get all healed up soon. I hear Paris calling you. :^)

  5. What delights, I feel all warm and cosy (not an easy feat, I ventured outside today and it is so cold, my strawberry, er, nose froze).

May I say that your paintings look way better than all those tartes? I particularly love the sketches.

Have a berrilicious day, Carol! :-)

  11. Strawberries seem to have no season here also! The markets are full of them way ahead of local season....and they never stopped coming last winter, though I bet they were from Chile!
You have been much on my mind this afternoon: I have finally made good on my promise to bake les macs. I'm starting with pale spring lemon macs. They are piped onto the parchment and awaiting the bake. I'm using a recipe from your latest book plug, but this Brit says they only need to sit for 30 - 60 minutes. I KNOW you said overnight is how it's done. So I am doing the scientific thing: I'm baking some when she suggests, some in between and some overnight. It may all be for naught as I think her dough came out too stiff. At least according to her pictures. Les macs were not built in a day.

  13. I love your watercolours and your photographs. Do you really go to all these fabulous pastry shops and eat all these delicasies? I have never eaten a macaroon, how good are they? A very curious and jealous Linda.

  15. So very pretty!

Such lovely things to think about while you're getting yourself into parsian street-stomping shape.
