Ville Lumière

Have you ever gone to Paris... And not taken dozens of pictures... Of the fabulous street lamps? Fortunately they haven't changed much...
Since the days when first installed in 1820, though there's no longer a streetlighter to put in the gas...
I took a closer look...
When I was painting Ben and his cat at Cartier...
The basic design seems to...
Originate...
From your everyday candlelabra. Brilliant!
I hope Paris never switches to these new-fangled horrors - more historic info at Peter's Paris.
BONJOUR Ville Lumiere!

The old lamps are so romantic.
I hope they never switch them either. It would be too sad.

  4. Yes, Venezia & Paris. I think of them as 'true blue' - as in protective, guardian.

  5. I love the moment in the evening when they just come on and they change color about three times. It's magic!

  9. Whenever I think of Paris, I always do think of the street lamps. They are so prominent and pretty there. Thanks for reminding us of that.

The good thing is Paris has no money for a long time,

Maybe we have to just fix the old lamps...

  12. I do love them! Have you read the childrens book, "This is Paris"? It has a darling example of all the different styles of street lamps in Paris. Very cute book.
