La Vie En Rose

Diana Vreeland famously said "pink is the navy blue of India." There's no need to rush off to Jaipur, the pink city. Just head over to Fauchon's on 442 Park Avenue (at 56th Street) in New York.

Their pastry counter is full of pink. And those pink pastries come packed in pink boxes.

It's best to pick your dessert from the pastry case first.

The adjoining tea salon is a bit dark but the overhead lighting casts a rosy glow on everything, yourself included. Peach-colored roses are on all the tables.

Fauchon has definitely figured out how to get that inner glow.

The tea menu has close to a hundred varieties of Assam, Ceylon, Chinese, Darjeeling, Japanese, flavored and herbal.

They even offer a Rose Petal with tea preserve.

Service is attentive and you may, if you're lucky, get a ganache-filled chocolate sitting on top your bill. The whole experience is pretty delightful.

I find it hard to do a bad painting after I've been there.

The hot chocolate is delicious too = my inspiration...

If you're still mad for pink, then do go to Jaipur, the pink city.

But wait until November when the weather is cooler...

Pink and "chocolate" (brown) are the hot combo in dress so I'd vote for the pink t-shirt!

Very nice piece! I love pink, infact our bedroom is rose petal pink and so is our David Hockney pink and purple carpet! When ever I get anxious or worried about someone or something, I close my eyes and wrap it in pink light to make it safe and only allow good things to happen. I love this thinking it gets me through the tough times! Just this morning I wrapped Michael in pink light because he has a very important meeting coming up and this way I know I can help and all will work out for the best. Try it, you’ll find yourself using it daily! CA

This reminds me that Twyla Tharp says she eats like 3-4 hard boiled eggs everday for breakfast. She must have French relatives...

  5. Ah! Merci beaucoup. I just stumbled onto your blog via Corey at Tongue and Cheek. I live for afternoon tea (and, quite often, pink!), so this entry has made my day. I have never been to Fauchon, but will definitely book a trip there when in NY and/or Paris this summer.

Your water colors are gorgeous – one of my favorite mediums. Deceptively (and beautifully) simplistic, just like those little pink macaroons from Fauchon, but we know the real truth...

Looking forward to meeting you in Paris!

    Bisous,
